New bill for House Helper

Having a House Helper is really helpful for families for those both husband and wife are working. It lessen the worries about children and household chores in the house. But based on my personal experience, I do experience different kinds of house helpers. I think because I often employed a younger one like it ages 15-18 years old. Because in our province it was too hard to look for a house helper that was older than me or helper that are hands on in terms of cleaning the house, knows how to cooks food and well trained in taking care of children. I passed the same situation for all my 3 different house helper, the reason for me to fired them after maybe a 3 to 5 months was that they are not skilled enough at work in the house, you always need to give command on what they should do. If they don't hear you command they has nothing to do but to watch the T.V or play around. And I have this house helper that sleeps while I do the chores. You gave them fair salary but they don't know how to cope up with what to do everyday. There is this night that when I got home from work and finds out that she (house helper) had not yet prepared and cook our food, I really freak out as in I scolded her and tell her that what if I did not go home or I had an Overtime and I got home late at night, will you still not think of cooking your own food? will all of you be starving to death??? For all of those experience I think the new bill for increasing the salary of house helper for me, should be based on what work they should be done or they have the skill to do all chores in the house, then that will be the time I'll be giving what was due for them. My minimum for that that was Php 1,500 that was way back 2008. My last house helper was last 2011 where in my minimum was Php 2,500. This is the link where I get the information for the New Bill : ph.news.yahoo.com/higher-pay-seen-for-pinoy--kasambahays--110015146.html Share your view if you have house helper ^_^

well ofzhernandez, thanks for sharing your story...i haven't have one helper in our house because its too expenzive to get the visa plus flying ticket..and mostly here is only the family doing the household chores even ur working and the kids u need to registered them on childcare..before i get married im a house helper too in manila plus doing the factory job because they have a factory on the first level that was back 2002,im 17 years old on that time and i was getting 2000 pesos per month it doesn't matter even u working hard or not as long ur job is finish on that day...based on ur story, even they are young or not or well skilled or not as long as u already told them what they gonna do everyday while your away at home, maybe they would follow it..because being a helper i know they scared of their boss when they got home that there tasks is not finish yet..and household duties with matching looking after the kids is not easy task, especially if the kids are under 2 years old.u need to fucos to look after the kids than doing the household duties, coz u know why?2 years under is very wrigller, they gonna climb the chair and jump ect that cuase them hurt in them self.they need ur eyes always in there way..its ok if ur kids ae going to school and in that way she can fucos to work and make ur home clean and organize..you might get a bit older than 15-18 years helper...well,goodluck of that

I understand what you want to impart swetify, what I am telling here is based on my experience on having a house helper. Yes, I know that house helper has many task to do aside from taking care of the kids. But I myself will prove that in all works done here in the house has a great time management so that you will finish what has to be done. It's just I am too unlucky to have a hired helper that knows how to manage their time here at home. To comment on your statement about when you baby sit a 2years and below then you can't do other work because you have to make an eye for the kid is that I will prove that I can still do other task other than baby sitting the whole day. Because I do have 2 children and one is below 2 years but still I can do the laundry, cook our food and clean the house. I think you just have a knowledge on what was the pattern of sleep of the baby. If you already knew it then that was just the time you do the household chore. And you know what, I can still sit here infront of the computer doing on line jobs. ^_^ There are many ways to handle baby or children below 2 years old. And I agree with you I should be getting a helper that is more than 18 years old to be sure that she knows the job well. ^_^ Thanks for response Happy Mylotting!!

I agree with you, it's really difficult to find a helper that is really skilled to be a house helper. Both me and my husband are working so we leave our kids with 2 house helpers. There were times when we arrived home that they were not able to cook viand yet, but we understood them because they are also taking care of the kids. But sometimes I also can say that if only they have initiatives and time management, I know they can do it on time. I do not have work on Saturdays so I can witness what it is to be at home the whole day. I can see that they really have lots of slack time especially when my youngest baby is asleep. or the 2 kids are asleep. We usually arrive at 7pm because our off at office is at 6:30pm. One time I went home earlier and it surprised me to see them sleeping at 5:30pm. 5:30pm is already a peak hour on preparing what to cook for dinner. I do not deprive them from sleeping but at least they just put some limits on it. But yet, I am still thankful that I have them, because they take care of my kids while we're at work. I just need to accept that they are just what they are.

Aren't they lucky? Because they have employers that understands them even if its too unreasonable that they are two helpers but none of them think that "hey, it's was past 5 we should be preparing our dinner now". Your just too kind, If I am at your place maybe I will be talking and talking until they understand that they are being hired to do jobs that we (as employer) can't do because we have to go work for them to get paid and be compensated fairly. So I think the bill was just another bill that our government never think about again. They want to give helpers increase salary and yet many helpers are not that skilled enough to do their task. They are too lucky because their salary was fixed and they will not spend their salary on bills, foods, toiletries, rent, etc. Unlike us their employer before we get our salary there are lots of deduction like SSS,Pag ibig, Philhealth, taxes. and the remaining will be for paying bills, foods, transportation, education, rent. How's that? I think I'd be better be a house helper than being employed in a low salary company that has so many deductions. lol ^_^ Thanks for the response

yes! and helpers get more freebies than us! If I do not have kids, maybe you can also see me scolding them also. I just conditioned myself that I should be thankful that they are there for my kids. Even if sometimes I feel like I already want to burst with anger, but I keep my self-control because I also have to admit it's difficult to find helpers these days... The government should also have added some requirements that helpers should undergo some sort of housekeeping trainings? lol...

Personally this is always a factor. Wanting to hire someone to help around your house, and then over paying them, or have them not wanting to do anything to help out. Without a real regimine of what is to be expected many times they will never be up to your standard. I know I would Love to have one to help clean up around the house as in thorough cleaning, etc. but probably could not really afford a good one.

I agree with you, every employer has different sets of standards specially at home. You have standards on what clean house are and standard on how they will baby sit. If those standards are being met I think giving them a good pay is not too difficult to give right?

When I was still working in the office with 3 small kids, a house help is really a must. In the Philippines, a house help can also be the yaya, the cook, the house sitter, the laundrywoman, and sometimes even a personal assistant. I think it's about time to define what are the do's and don'ts when it comes to having house helps. This will help eliminate abuses of some employers who treat their house helps like slaves. And for all the house helps get the benefits that they really deserve. By the way, I don't have one right now ever since I started to work at home :)..

I think for me this Bill should be imposed for those house help that are tried and tested that they really are doing good jobs inside the house of their employer. Because they really deserve being compensated fairly. As for me if there is this house help that will really be a HELP for me even if this bill will not pursue I still want to give what was due for their job. Even give them benefits like SSS, Philhealth and Pag-Ibig. But when a helper is not really helping me I think I will just fired her and just be myself here at home. It will lessen my monthly expense lol ^_^

Well, with the kind of economy that we have here in our country, 2500php is really not enough even if there's free food and lodging. We also have a househelp and we are giving her 3,500 every month and two years back, we started paying for her sss contributions and philhealth as well. I hope other employers would do that as well.

Thanks for the response Kat_2x, hopefully our government will have some law on hiring house helper because there are house helper that are not real helper. They just want to rob the employers house specially if they know that their employer are rich man. I think they should implement a more strict requirement for those helper so that those incident of robbery will lessen or eliminate.

Mexico has alot of families who use these as well. Because of the poverty here, the high class families hire these girls to do house work and things here. Some are paid well, many arent. They need a law here for them as well.

I think the bill should be followed, house helpers should received the minimum wage. Minimum wages should not be based on whether the house helper is doing good work or not, this is already a discrimination. If in one month's time our house helper is lazy and her work is not commendable then we should give her the minimum wage and fire her. Office workers are not hired and given salary based on whether they do good work or not, office workers are given minimum wages regardless of how good or not they are in working so why not do the same with house helpers? why discriminate? We always have the option anyway to fire them if they're not really good, the same if it's an office worker.
