Some people are wanting cheaper travel

Some people like to travel on no frills airlines like Easy Jet and Ryan Air. Nowadays these cheap airlines are charging lots for check in baggage. I saw a travel jacket which has many useful pockets that can carry 10 kilos of luggage. So I decided to buy one. Then we can each have one small item of hand luggage. The problem would be I wouldn't be able to take any drinks. In the hand luggage I could take powered soya drink. It can be turned into soya drink when water is added to an amount of it. I fancy visiting Iceland on a no frills airline however once there I know accommodation is pricey. I would have a short break there like four to five days. Then I could have a low cost break. I wish to visit Morocco on a budget so an no frills airline could help me do that. I feel similar about visiting Cyprus. Have you traveled with only hand luggage? Do you think that you would get a cheaper trip wearing a travel jacket or vest? Which ideas do you have for cheaper travel?

People wanting cheaper travel has led to the cattle class conditions we now have on these airlines..along with the "everything else costs extra" money grabbing business plan that goes with it. While I like the concept of these storage jackets you can wear to pad out your carry on allowance,I'm not so keen on the ones made of material that "Transformer Robot" style, make you look like you're wearing a piece of cheap nylon luggage.. My only experience of travel taking only carry on luggage was on a short trip to London..while it was possible, the security restrictions on liquids and items that couldn't be carried on board was exasperating for Me..and you may forget about bringing purchases (and duty free?) if you don't have the space or allowance for them..reading an article on low cost travel recently,it mentioned a site called onebag.com..it may be useful when planning the next trip!

I bought a steel water bottle last trip and just fill it at the public drinking water fountains or wherever I'm staying when travelling with it.I still have to get myself into the habit of drinking the contents or emptying it before getting to the security lines though..

Thanks for your wonderful response. I feel very uncomfortable on long haul flights due to the cramped conditions. My storage jacket is purple with red zips. I will look so very funny wearing it I am sure. Yes, the security rules regarding liquid can be annoying. Water is pricey in the duty free shops the other side of security. I like have a look at the one bag website. Many thanks.

I must learn from you how to travel light and on budget. So far, I have tried Easy Jet in 2008 flying to Malaga, Spain from London. I managed to fly within the luggage limit. I think the travel jacket with many useful pockets is quite a good idea. It came in handy and save luggage space.

I am glad that you got a cheap flight to Spain by staying within the budget limit. Yes, the travel jacket is worth it. I will hopefully be able to begin planning my trip in more detail soon.

The last time I went out of state was over 5 years ago and I took the Amtrak train. Unless they changed their rules all you had to do was hand all your bags to a baggage handler with no charge and no certain number of bags. You could also take all your bags on the train and put them into a baggage area. They don't have a check in where you have to take anything off and there is no wanding of your body. If I were travel again I would take the train.

When I was traveling in America I liked traveling on the Amtrak trains. I traveled in California on the trains. Twice the train arrived five hours late. It is loads of fun traveling on American trains. I hope you do another happy trip by train in your home country.

If I don't have to work, then I think my travel budget must be lower a lot. Since I can choose anytime to travel and avoid the busy holiday and vacations. As at that time the airline tickets, hotels etc. are much more expensive than usual. Especially lately I pay attention to Air Asia and it often offers nice discounts of the plane tickets and hotels. So if I don't have to work, then I shall choose the best time to buy the plane tickets. It will save quite a lot. I don't have a high requirement for the hotels. As long as it is clean and convenient, that will be fine for me. After all, I will not stay in the hotel for a long time since I have to go out in daytime in my journey.

I am glad that Air Asia can have some cheap airline tickets. It is lovely that you willingly accept a clean and conveniently placed accommodation like a budget priced hotel. Like me in the day time you are out exploring. In Rio we had to stay three nights in two single beds. I joined them together with a sheet, slept in the middle and had one kids on each side. It wasn't great for the three of us.

Here in our country, some airlines offer cheap fares. I think it is good. However, it is scheduled not during peak season. I really like to travel again. Maybe I should grab this opportunity. :-) Thanks for this discussion. Have a nice day!

When the goal is the destination and not the travel itself I must say that Ryan Air and the others are great as long as the travel time is not to long. But I would not choose them for a 10h flight to asia or the US, but for 1-4h flights within Europe I don,t see a problem. Just traveling with hand luggage is great by the way! You have to think twice on what you actually need to bring and what you can just get at you destination. Sure the "airport security" is strict, but how much liquides do you actually need to bring with you? I meen, I can handle not having a drink or a meal for 2-4h. And if you really need a soft drink you can get one at the airport after security or on the plane. And once you get to your destination you don,t have to hurry to the hotell to "get rid of that luggage", you can start you visit right at the airport and enjoy yourself. I think of it as more of a backpack experience but with a nice hotell and a much smaller backpack :-) I did get a Scott e vest this summer, the Fleece 5.0, perfect for travel to keep you tickets, passport, money and your smaller electronics safe and close to hand. The iPad pouch works but it,s a bit odd. And since the sleeves zip off it also work both on the plane (cold) and at your destination (tends to be warmer then what you left).

Thanks for your wonderful response. It is okay to have little leg room on a flight that lasts around 4 hours. I know what you mean about it no being great on a flight of over 10 hours. It can be hard to sleep on a long haul flight which has very little leg room. Yes, drinks can easily be bought the other side of security. My kids had baby's bottles when they were infants. They made me sample some of the drinks to show they were safe.

A travel jacket - I am sure that loads of people would really love that idea although I bet the security guys at the airport hate it as they would have to get them to empty it all and I am sure it it was full it would potentially make the queues longer if everybody was wearing them!

I want to travel in other countries. I have been to places in the Philippines and I should say I've had a lot of fun! However, the downside is sometimes it's very expensive or costly given the fact that airline companies are charging more with the taxes and fees. More often that not, some of our local airline companies provide "piso fare", which means we only need to pay one peso (I think it's equivalent to US$40.95) as a base fare but we need to pay the fare tax amounting to 500 pesos or US$12.21, plus other fees. It may not be too expensive for other travelers, but it would be very costly for me if I will frequently travel to some other places.

I think your idea of this travel jacket / travel vest is a very space convenience when traveling. In Malaysia, Air Asia is a leading airline that bring millions to travel Asia every year. Luggage capacity and extra charges to passengers has bring extra income to this airline. Therefore it is good to travel light and shop less. Go for the sight seeing and experience different culture and local cuisines that do not burden the luggage nor the wallet.

Cheaper travel, sometimes I think if I traveling with or nobody come with me, I will choose the tour packages, the cheaper tour packages, why? Because if you buy tour packages they will give unreasonable price, this is the point, if you take a tour by your self, not aware, you will spend a lot of money much more than originaly price everywhere,,
