Cat raised by dogs

Our new cat, jack. was raised by dogs, I know this because he does what no cat has ever done in our house. He lays flat on his back with his tummy exposed, and then allows tummy rubs just like our dogs always do. Sure we have had some cats that allow some tummy rubs but not much and not for long. This guy will let you rub his belly as long as you want, purrs all the time.

Well our cats chase cats but I'm pretty sure they weren't raised by dogs.

..ground for friendship. At least not mine. I can never have cats simply because the smell. and sight of cats would send my dogs crazy. They would bark endlessly as if they wanted to feast on the cat. Maybe if they have been together since their puppyhood and kittenhood they would have neutralized the bad blood between these domestic animals and bond a kind animal love that please their masters.

Wow it is very uncommon for a cat to expose their belly, which is actually their vulnerable part! None of my ex's cats ever let you do this and if you tried to touch their bellies they would paw you for sure! Your Jack sounds like a treasure.

He's more like the pirate then the treasure. He hasn't learned not to grab yet, if our hands last we'll teach him that.

Well, Scamp loved to have his tummy rubbed and he'd throw himself on his back to get them. Mekon would lay on the floor with his tummy up, but woe to anyone who touched it! Oliver also lays with tummy up but no touchie!

When he barks, chases other cats, and brings his dish to you, let us know. Thanks and take care.

I don't know about barking but he sounds kindof like the hound when she is telling me I've done something wrong. Like not fed her on time. What a voice Jack cat has

Exposing the belly to you is an extreme form of showing confidence. He must be really glad to have found a new safe home. You should be flattered. Especially when he's doing it with a dog around. He is obviously now a happy kitty.

I have known cats that do this, but not many. You are honored, it is a sign he is comfortable and trusts you. It could very well be that Jack learned this from the dogs.

My cat's been with me since a kitten,so there's been no Dog influence in her life..She'll roll over and purr for a belly rub when I get home!

That's interesting. I have seen one of my cats become rabbit-like before when I still had my rabbit. They lived together in our house and he would play with the rabbit and even eat like our rabbit. Our rabbit also caught some things from the cat, as he would lay down like one and not like the way rabbits normally do.

Hi pat~ I have 2 cats that think they're dogs too! They both love belly rubs too! My cat Luna will see my BF and just "stop, drop and roll". He just falls to the floor and dances on his back until he gets him to pet him no matter how long it takes! He doesn't do it for me. My cat Star also loves belly rubs and will do it when my friends come over and they just laugh. The cats I've had in the past I don't remember them being interested in belly rubs, at least not like Star & Luna.

It is amazing. I think that animals can be stereo-typed just as easily as people. Perhaps there is something more to be said about our raising..lol.
