I know this subject is not limited to hearing

Winter in our area brings a whole new world of sound. When the leaves are gone from the trees many sounds that they blocked are heard. Also as the Birds have changed so half the fun is locating and identifying each new resident. Because of the lack of leaves, I can hear the country road and keep tract of when the school buses arrive. Even in the Cities the winter sounds must be different from those in the other seasons of the year.

i like to hear the wind whipping the snow around outside and know that i am safe and warm in my house. the only sound i don't like in the winter is the snow plow because they come at 3 or 4 in the morning and often wake me up! (we live in a condo unit)

For me I love the Winter, far more than the Summer, mainly because my moods crash in the Summer months and I am heat sensitive. I love the different smells that Winter brings especially the frost and the snow, it's a clean, inviting, healthy smell, not the damp, the heat, the sweat and the warmth from the Summer. We don't tend to hear much of the birds sadly, because we have a lot of cats around, the birds don't flock to our gardens like they used to. I would always listen out to the beautiful tune of the robins tweeting, a sign that Winter is here for sure. I also love the crispness and the crunch sounds as you walk in the snow.

Hi pat~ There is a definite difference in the sounds where I live too. But, here the birds are pretty much gone and I miss their sounds. They won't be back until the Spring. We haven't had much of a Winter yet, at least as far as snow. It has been unseasonably warm the last 2 weeks for this time of year, and I am definitely not complaining because I can't take the cold anymore as I get older. It's just very dreary looking with the leaves off the trees. Even when the sun is shining it still looks like winter. We still have lots of squirrels, but that's pretty much it for this area. I definitely like the Spring and Summer more!

The road that is behind our house is a pretty busy road and it is during the months of the year where there are not leaves on the trees, I am actually able to hear the road noise from back there whereas during the spring and summer months we aren't able to hear that noise at all and it even seems to me like we are in our own little piece of paradise. In addition to the change in sounds that we hear during the winter, I am also able to see the road and the industrial area that is close to my house during the winter and I can't see these things during the spring or summer either.

The only thing different in the city is no birds. All the noise is still there. I hear the street outside every single day. I hear sirens all day long. And school buses we actually hear them all the time. Where I live there is large Hasidic community and even in the summer when they are not in school, they do go to camp. So there is always school buses. The noise and traffic are getting on my nerves these days. I don't ever remember it being this noisy.

Yes and in my city almost the same with yours, usually our city will be more quiet then we can hear something that we can not be heard in other seasons, and not just the hearing, sometimes I find out the the sight will be more further and more clearly in winter. But just the cold temperature is irritated.

In those places that actually have what passes for WINTER you are probably correct. Unfortunately, since I grew up in UPPER MICHIGAN and now live in KANSAS, I can't really say that what arrives here is REALLY WINTER. Those of you who live in the Northern climates know what I'm referring to, or can, at least, remember what it used to be like. I am now trying to remember what those winter sounds were like. I am going to guess that with all the NOISE that constantly bombards us in town, I doubt if any of us could tell any difference because I can't, however I'm HALF DEAF. Speak up or I probably will not hear you.

I can visualize the beautiful sceneries that people in four seasons countries enjoy. In a way you are lucky as you are experience the many different atmosphere at every change of seasons. I love to experience that one day but honestly I couldn't stand the cold winter. I prefer to be consumed by the tropical heat than shiver to the bones in winter.

Yes, foliage makes a big difference! Now the wind whistles instead of whooshing through the trees. We're getting fog occasionally now and I love to sit outside when it creeps in. It throws a soft blanket of sound proofing over everything, it seems, and sounds lose their sharp edges. It's the same when it snows, I love it. One reason I love autumn is these big changes that affect more than sight.

Oh, we don't experience winter here in our country. If we have it, I guess it will be a lot noisier in the cities and the opposite in some provinces. I want to experience White Christmas. It will be just possible when I spend my Christmas abroad. I guess I can't afford that now. Hopefully someday. May you enjoy your winter season and the holiday. Happy mylotting.

Yeah, Winter is my favourite apart from autumn. - First, Christmas eve is on winter with caroling houses from the very first of December, decorating houses and putting stars on the top of the house and celebrating the Christmas, just fun. - My Birthday also falls in this season, like in December and I'm just lucky that I was born on December. - You got to see the year coming to an end with mixed feelings and also welcoming a New Year ahead of us. - lastly but not the least, love the sound of burning woods creaking on the corner of your house, for me it really makes you feel the winter time. I know many of us have loads of amazing things which makes winter so special, but I just love enjoying this season.

It is indeed quieter and more peaceful in the winter. Many animals are hibernating and the trees rest in the winter. There is a sense of calmness during the wintertime. I like listening to the snow fall gently down, it doesn't seem to make a sound but it is a whispering sound. Just so peaceful.
