I like to spend money too but I like to have money in the bank even more. For a long, long time I struggled to have enough money and I always paid my bills and that meant money in the bank for those annual or quarterly bills. I have a healthy amount of savings now but I still live fairly simply and I don't splash money around. I own my home and I own my 2 year old SUV. Guess you can say I'm fairly wise.

That means that the sermons are falling on deaf ears. You are hearing what your parents say,you don't listen to them.Unlike you I save money. My parents are no more, but I have learned from Mylot how to save the little money that I have.I don't earn much either on Mylot or offline and I can't afford to buy ice creams and cakes.I have to look after my family that consists of as many as seven members,so I can't even think of spending on ice creams and cakes.

Everyone should learn from a young age to save up for their old age. If you start earlier, you'll reach your goal faster. I wish I had done that when I was younger. But like you, I'm also one who likes to shop and spend money on food mostly. If I had only saved $10 every month from when I was a teenager (say 14 years old), I will have at least $3960 now. That is more than I can say what I have in the bank right now. If I had saved $100 a month, the amount would be $39,600 now. That would be quite a lot, wouldn't it?

Hello Tushavi! haha well Ice Cream is yummy and so is Coke but I wouldn't spend all my money on them. I go through phases where I can save so much but for some reason when I get depressed, I buy things like movies or go and get massages to try and cheer myself up. At the moment I do not have too much money and that depressed me more haha so I am trying my hardest to save so much. I want a car and want to save money for my own place. Happy MyLotting. ~AussieGal~

The years have taught me so now I set aside savings every pay day. I wish I had done that a long time ago, or really kept from using savings for any purchases. That way I know I'd always have something in store for rainy days.

I'd say at this moment that my husband and I must not have any wisdom at all. However, this is not something that I think I worry about too much because this has not always been the case for us. You see, we've ended up where we are right now because we had a storm that came through our life that was very much like the 40 days and 40 nights of rain from Noah's Ark. Just because we are struggling now, we do have a plan that will be putting us back on our feet pretty soon, we just have to get to that point.

I try to save up as much as possible. I was taught by my parents even as a child to always save something from the allowance they give me everyday so that if ever O would want to buy something, I have money to spend for it. That is the same lesson I am trying to teach my kids. It is not always that I have extra money to buy things that they want. And as I would often tell them, the money that I have are for the things that they need. I guess, my kids understand our situation and so they really try to set aside a small amount each day from their allowance.

Hehe I was thinking that in my case, rainy days come very frequently! I try to keep a good amount in the bank, but this past month I have had so many extra expenses--most of them unavoidable. But silly me, since I was so mad about all the bad things this month, I bought a few "treats" for myself...reasoning that if money is leaving my account, I might as well enjoy a little bit of it! I didn't spend much, but now when I look at my bank account it is kind of depressing. It's time to start building it once again!

I am a total failure when it comes to saving money. Much as i wanted to save something bad will surely happen for and that money that I just saved will be used for that. so I don't like to save anymore. too bad I know for in case of emergency I need to have something to take from my pocket.

I am afraid I am not very wise if you measure it only by how much savings I have on hand! I am actually working toward starting a savings account..but don't actually have it started yet.. does thinking about it count at all? lol!

Too much eating of ice cream and drinking coke is not good for our health. Your parents are right, instead of spending your money for other things (unnecessary things) better save it for rainy days. You never know when an emergency comes. Besides, those foods that you are eating and craving for being only junks.

I try to save all my money, especially after I sold my haloween candy one year and used all of the profits to buy cookies, haha. Whenever I make money I make sure to put it in place I don't have easy access to, this way I can buy more important things than cookies and sodas.

i'm so into saving for rain days..i spend a lot on foods..but i rarely spend on things that i just want..i always think, think, think, and think before i'll buy something..and it's all because of saving for the rainy days.. i've been into a period of time that my family really experienced crisis..that my father lend some money for my graduation and board exams..and sometimes i didn't have any allowance because of money problems..but i survived because of my small savings..even how small it was, it's still a big help for me..
