My gay friend/office mate told me that he doesn’t have a new shirt for our Christmas party which will be tomorrow, and doesn’t have a budget for it anymore. He e said he wants a shirt , which is the e color of the party, which is either a touch of red, gold or white. I told him that he has white shirts or red shirts so he could just wear any of them and that he doesn’t have to buy a new one if he don’t have the money to buy it. And he asked me if I have a new clothes for the party. I told him, I have a new one but have just worn it once, last month. So , I insisted that he doesn’t have to buy a new one for the Christmas party. But still he seemed so depressed that he has no new clothes to wear for the Christmas party.

That's correct! WE can just wear some existing clothes in the closet. We just have to learn how to reinvent them by using accessories, which i am gonna do tonight for the party.

Maybe he's just used to wearing new clothes on Christmas parties. I also have that notion, where I need to have new stuff for events like this. Especially if there is a theme to adhere to. Last Sunday, I attended my husband's company party, and the theme was masquerade. We didn't wear masks, but I had to buy a new dress on that same day. But, that's because I don't have a dress that would go with the theme.

Sometimes, during this once a year occasion, buying a new dress or outfit becomes a necessity. But one does not need to do that if she/he doesn't have the means to have money. They can either go through their existing clothes , reinvent them by accessorizing according to what's the theme of the party.

Gay in particular are very good in this kind. They can really create a new look out of even the ukay-ukay clothes.

I really envy those creative and artistic people who are able to transform their old clothes to new ones with even better designs. If I had the talent, I wouldn't have to buy too many new clothes.

For our children, yes they must have new clothes for the Christmas party, because they feel confident that they have that during the party. But for adults, they can buy yes, if they have the money after buying for the children.

It's sort of a Filipino tradition to have new clothes for Christmas. I don't know who came up with this but just as you said, it is not important if your clothes are new or not. My parents didn't raise us following this tradition so I feel sorry for those people who only feel the Christmas spirit when they get to buy a new outfit.

Well, that's true my friend. My parents brought us up that during Christmas we always have new clothes and shoes. But when i had my own job already, i would always buy a new Christmas party dress to wear. However, that changed when i already have a family. I budget my money , in such a way that i will only buy a new one, if i have lots of extra money for it. I become practical in other words.

Oh well my friend, you don't need a new one for Christmas , since you said you have just bought 3 new saris last Diwali Festival. Me, i have a new white blouse which i have worn only once, so it's what i am gonna wear for the party. I just have to wear red accessories to compliment my white blouse and pants.

New clothes make us feel good, and they are nice to have, but new clothes are not something we need "new" all the time. There are somethings I am not willing to compromise on, like under garments. Those must be new! If this friend of yours really wants to wear something different for the Christmas party suggest he go shopping at a thrift store, there are really nice clothes there and at good prices. My Uncle got a suit to wear for an appointment he had and it was under $10. When we work, most people see us in our work clothes or work uniform, so they don't know what style of clothing we have at home hanging in our closet, so he can still get dressed up and feel good about what he's wearing just by looking for the dress clothes in his own closet. We don't need everything new. Tell your friend to go to the party and have a good time and not to worry about what he's wearing (yes he wants to be clean and presentable) but instead to have a good time. Later in the evening it won't matter what he was wearing.

You are very correct my friend. He can actually reinvent some of his clothes , wear some accessories like a tie and a coat. What is important is how he carries them. And the lights on the stage will do the rest of making him feel different since he is one of the two emcees.

I don't have new clothes for Christmas. I think that's okay because Christmas would still be there even if you don't have something new. I think sometimes, we forget that there are people who have lost everything and struggles day-by-day to survive. We do need to be a little less materialistic. Tell him that the best thing that would make him look good this Christmas isn't the clothes he wears but the SMILE he shares. Have a great mylot experience ahead!

Actually , that's true my friend. It's just that, my friend is used to having a new dress or outfit during Christmas party. But this time he is so broke to be able to buy one. I told him that, but he is still unconvinced. Let's see tonight if he managed to buy a new one despite being broke.

In my case, i usually buy new blouses for my office wear. Then , i mix & match them with my pants and put on some high heels and voila, i have a new look each day. In this party, i will wear a new blouse which i have worn only once and match it with a white pants and accessorize it with a red drop belt and a red necklace and i am ready to party. No need for a new clothes for me.

I am lucky I am not attending any Christmas parties this year other than in my own home. I used to hear about that same problem from my past co-workers.

New clothes should never be a problem, to one who knows how to reinvent existing clothes., jolie, Accessories and matching are the key to looking different, even if you have worn them many times, actually.

As long as the shirts or clothes look good, I don't think buying new clothes is necessary. I have a couple of shirts I seldom wear and they look great, so I often wear any of them for annual celebrations. Don't you think so?

That's true yan. I too have the same outlook as you. If you have clothes that are seldom worn , then you can use them for the party. You just have to reinvent, as what i did for the party. I just added a scarf and made it into a drop belt.

I think he has this idea in mind that every Christmas party we need to have everything new. But if he really doesn't have money at all, then just be contented to wear anything even though its' not new.Actually i also have problem on my budget this Christmas, i also want to wear something unusual to me, so i decided to buy clothes on ukay ukay.. ahah well there are lot of good clothes there with affordable prizes and it solves my problem on my budget. ahaha

Yes, ukay=ukay has some really nice clothes. Also some are imported. A friend of mine always have new clothes - from ukay-ukay and they are nice indeed! Well, he didn't buy a new one. He reinvented his existing shirt by putting on a vest. He was one of the two emcees , but it was him who carried the show. He is a comedian and a good emcee.

True, there;s no need to buy new clothes as long as you have one to wear. Buying new clothes for Christmas is just for kids. Here, we don;t have a Christmas party as I'm working with management of different religion. But my friends and I have agreed we gotta wear red and white on the even of Christmas. I've bought a new pants but I'm gonna wear an old shirt. The pants won;t be that new on that day as I have already used it the other day.

Don't you long for a Christmas party enelym? It's sad that the big brass of your company is in a religion where they don't believe that it's Jesus natal day on the 25th. Perhaps you and your other office mates of one belief can just have your own intimate party by yourselves. Just to celebrate the occasion and feel the Christmas spirit.

I think since we are grown ups , guess no need to buy new for Christmas party. If we got no extra money for that then fine , we will still attend . No problem for the attire , as long as we have a clean decent clothes to wear. Adult people can adjust easily. Unlike when you are a kid or teenager , where wearing of new clothes is like a fad and a compulsory. Christmas is not a Christmas if they don't have a new dress. That is the perception of children and most accepted this because we have in mind and in tradition that Christmas is for the children.

Correct angel! Children always connects Christmas to new clothes and shoes. They always look forward to Christmas because of the new things they may have. But as to adults, they have to learn how to adapt to the situation specially when they don't have any extra budget to buy new clothes.

I so, agree with you on this. Yes. Your co-worker does not need to buy a new wardrobe to join such event. All your friend needs to do is to mix and match whatever pieces he has in his closet and do a little tweaking on his clothes like putting accessories or accenting his looks with color blocking, or putting up a monochrome look either way, it’s the best alternative rather than putting himself buy a new set of clothes just to compensate the event. But if he still insists to buy new one, well he could buy one shirt and buy something cheaper or rather on the sale. Since, some malls most especially in this season have some sales on the racks. He just needs to spend his money wisely.
