I am 99.9% Happy With My New Computer Desk

New Computer Desk Assembled - My New Computer Desk - Love It!

The reason why I'm not 100% happy is due to a part (bulb) missing from the Endon Desk Lamp so I rang Wayfair and a replacement is to be sent. I doubt it will arrive tomorrow but at least it's coming..eventually. This is why I have the lamp that was once on the media unit (since moved to accommodate the larger desk) on my new desk instead. Looks a bit odd but at least I can see lol. I thought poor John was about to have a heart attack putting the thing together and you certainly need two people constructing it..so, I'm really pleased with the result. I love the tower trolley as well as I can move him around if I want to so he's never in the way. Why I'm calling him a 'he' I don't know, maybe 'cos he's so cute as he's got wheels on lol. Anyway, what do you think? By the way I don't actually use the keyboard as shown on the photograph; it's on the top shelf..but I wanted you to see what it all looked like if I did. Haha!

I'm going to sell my old one. Failing that I shall leave it outside with a 'Take me, I am free' sticker on it.

Success! Thanks for sharing the photo, now I get a real idea of what it looks like I am glad you managed to get it all together, finally! I think on the scale of things you got yourself up and running with only a minor setback! Now you are all set up and ready and raring to go no doubt!

It's warmer too as the desk is over to one side (due to the narrow media unit being moved) so the central heating is more..er..potent over to the right there. Cat's loving it as she's more space to warm herself, funnily enough!

That's a very attractive desk. If I got something that small, maybe it would help with my "pile-it" program! I do use my keyboard tray, but mostly I leave it under the desk and just type that way....

My current desk is about as deep as yours, but over a meter wide and I have it piled up!

Thanks very much. The desk is about 40cm wider than my previous one and because it's glass, it actually looks small. Quite a weird effect but I like it.

Interesting. If this one is larger, just how small was the old one?

I like that desk. It looks nice and simple. Thats what makes it look so good. And I love black. I also love the glass. It does not look too hard to put together. I had to put mine together and I had no problem. I hope you enjoy it. And I also hope you have a good desk chair to sit on. That makes it all worth it.

Thanks very much. The bulb came for the light today so I have that on my desk, to the right of me. It's not very bright but it's not supposed to be and I'm slowly getting used to it as I can adjust the top so it lights up my keyboard and such-like. My next purchase (hopefully) will be a light fitting for the hallway with my $60 BHS refund I received the other day. I have one in mind from a store called Debenhams but I don't know if they have them on the high street or not. I will order it from their website if I cannot find one. Here is the link to it from the Litecraft site as it's a better photograph. Blue goes with red i.e. the red carpet I keep dreaming of lol. http://www.litecraft.co.uk/lighting/ceiling-lights/chandeliers/calista-6-light-blue-glass-chandelier

That is a real nice looking chandelier. It does not matter of it has blue in it. The back goes with the red. And besides, the blue crystals will add a nice look to the lighting.

Glad you like your new computer desk. It looks very stylish and yet, classic as well. Hope it lasts for a long time. I have just a tray that serves as my desk for my lap top. But, mind you, I can take my lap top with me anywhere. I am sure you will get a replacement lamp soon. It's nice to have the computer desk near a window. I enjoy being able to see out my window from time to time, when I am on the computer desk. I think it is important to stay in touch with the real world, instead of cyber world. Enjoy your new computer desk. :)

Thank you. The desk is more over to the left now so not directly in front of the window. However, I can still see out of it during the day when my blinds are open. Because the desk has a glass top it gives the illusion of more space, plus the fact there is space underneath to stretch out my legs. I couldn't do this with my other desk and I found it uncomfortable.

Thanks very much. My brother usually gives out cash at Christmas so I'm hoping I can buy a chair with it in the January sales. They are already starting to come down in price so when I'm back home from Mum's for the New Year I shall be busy surfing the net for a bargain.

I like the desk. I don't think that is the sort of project I want to tackle anytime soon, though, since you say that it is a two-person job. I'm still working on teaching my boyfriend which end of the hammer is which. Okay... To be fair, he's not quite that bad, but he still hasn't entirely embraced the idea of being "handy" with tools. I'm not great, but I do have an understanding of what makes sense when tackling a project--the logical flow of things and what sorts of issues might arise.

I like to give John encouragement as he got a bit stressed at one point. The tool they provided was poor so at least he could use a bigger screwdriver to get 'purchase' on the screws (which were quite good quality I'm pleased to say) and I even gave him a round of applause at one point as there were some areas difficult to get at, shall we say. Because his Dad doesn't come round and bother us with his DIY knowledge as much it gives John an opportunity to learn..and he's very good. I'm so proud at the fact he never gives in as I'm like that too. An unfinished desk would look well naff and we both acknowledge that lol. He also has a condition that causes his hands to shake so you can imagine how difficult it is for his hands to remain steady tackling jobs such as this. This is why the sense of achievement at finishing it was even more worthwhile.

It looks pretty stylish but a little small for my liking! One thing I would like to say is that towers function better if they are up off the floor. They tend to get more dust in them at floor level, particularly if the floor is carpeted. We had lots of dust issues with past computers with small desks like this, but now we have our towers up on the desk itself and they run better. They get less dust and are easier to maintain as you see the dust building up on the vents easier so you just give them a quick vacuum and they are right to go. I was told many years ago by a computer repairer that a large portion of their repairs was due to dust building up. The computers then heat up and start to malfunction. The repairers simply vacuum the dust out and then charge a large fee for "repairing" it!

Hiya Bill. Glad you like the desk. Funnily enough, with it being black glass on the top it doesn't get as dusty as clear glass..and believe me, I DO look for it, being the sad Domestic Goddess that I am lol. I remember John's nephew taking my old tower apart some years ago. He couldn't get the lid back on so dust build-up was inevitable. It still lasted 9 years though, which is pretty good for a desktop computer. If this ones lasts the same length of time I'll be a very happy bunny!

It is brilliant! I think it is a far cry from the old one you presently use.Since you can move the computer tower to the outside of the leg of desk,so there is enough space for your legs.

Thank you so much. It will take a while getting used to as I'm so used to NOT putting my legs underneath the desk lol. Also, I've had to pinch John's mouse mat as the mouse doesn't want to work on the glass. I have used it on the MDF keyboard shelf underneath but I prefer it higher up. When the part comes for my lamp I shall take another photograph with that ensconsed on the desk as well..but it won't be until I get back from Mum's, probably New Year's Eve or, more realistically, the day before.
