Fruit cake

Over the years, I've heard a lot of people do not like fruit cake. It's a part of the holiday season they dread the most, giving or receiving a spice cake filled with glossy candied fruit. For my part, I looooooove fruit cake, especially the kind my mom bakes. She uses the recipe on the mincemeat jar. I don't know what brand. There only seems to be one brand of mincemeat on the shelf, so whichever that one is, I guess. At any rate, I really enjoy helping to combine the ingredients and stir in the fruit by hand. But my favorite part of all is definitely eating the finished product. Yum! It's almost impossible to practice portion control with Mom's delicious fruit cake around. Best wishes! :-)

I had never had a cafe with fruits but I have the cake with nuts. I really love those ones with lost of nuts. I just used to buy such cakes during the Christmas seasons. I really love it and the cake just vanishes inside my stomach within a day.

Hi wonderboy, and thanks for joining in. Nutty holiday cakes are absolutely divine. It's completely understandable that your cakes disappear quickly. I would have no resistance at all. What kind of nuts are your favorite?

Fruitcakes are so simple, yummy and healthy. It is my favorite. The fruitcake being made up of flour, candied fruits and nuts. What else could you ask for!?! I tend to bake this cake on each and every occasion, but have to bend down many a times to my family's demand, their favorite being the chocolate oven. I make this cake by the steaming method, you know the English Christmas Pudding traditional way.I think this cake is simply the best!

FINALLY!!!!!! Soneone else who likes fruitcake!!!!! But, I am very picky about my fruitcake, because I don't like the ones with nuts, so I have a real hard time finding ones I will eat. Some of them only have nuts on top, so that's ok because I can just take them off. I will say, though, it's been a long time since I found one that I liked.

Thanks for commenting, prashu, and welcome. I agree re eating cakes all the time, most any flavor. The actor Roy Rogers once said he never met a man he didn't like. I've seldom met a cake I didn't like, except maybe those with marshmallow frosting.

Heya prashu! Thanks so much for your kind reply. I grew up in a fruit cake loving family, so it was a shock to me to find the world so full of those who dislike it so much. I just love assembling cake batter and mixing it by hand or with electric beaters. It smells so good and scents the whole kitchen. I have to stay busy after that, because I can hardly wait for it to finish baking. There's always that first delicious bite when it's fresh out of the oven, then another once you've finished frosting it, if that's called for. Then, for sponge cakes, once they've marinated in a fruit sauce for a day or two, they're absolute sweet heaven! Peace! :-)

I know some people who absolutely love it, whereas I absolutely hate it. It's more the hard chunks in it. Here it's those idk even know what it's like fruit chunks that are rubbery, and chewing just turns me off of it.

Happy New Year and welcome, Ricki! Thanks for joining this discussion. The Ancient Romans had a great quote that applies here: "Non gusto disputandem." It means "There's no accounting for tastes." The food world is full of folks with different likes and dislikes, and the need to meet those tastes drives change and innovation. Peace! :-)
