No matter what you believe, end of the world or not, it's the longest night of the year for us who are in Winter. That means the days will start getting longer from then on and it's a time honored day to start the new year. So I would ask all of you to spend a time in meditation and prayer for a new way of living in love and peace. For others on which this day is the longest day of the year, you also can make this special to celebrate all that Summer brings and the harvest not long
away. Would you also join with us to welcome in a different kind of world, one where man creates instead of just using and destroying our Mother Earth, where we all care for each other and hate, greed, fear and jealousy, fall away from us like
bad dreams. Our true power is in love and peace. Blessings to all.

I can see a fundamental difference between you and I just in what you've written in this discussion. Instead of thinking of today as being the longest night of the year, I thought of it as being the shortest day of the year. You have to be an optimist while I am more of a pessimistic person.
That said, I am happy that the days are going to start getting just a little bit longer each day now and I do think that we should think of the things that we can do in the future to help our earth instead of hurting it.

For a lot of my life I was a pessimistic person also. I don't really know what changed, but I do remember thinking, this is one place I have a choice and starting to amend all those old pessimistic habits. Sure as a pessimist I was never disapointed, but I also never felt true joy, now I examine each result until I find a place for joy, it's more work but worth it for me. Choice is the key.

I don't believe in all such things. You are lucky being a longest night of the winter, but here in India I (Alibag), in spite of winter season it is not at all so cold and now the march is going to start with a lot of hot. Definitely i honor your request of doing meditation for the long and peaceful life.

We are here to stay. I am glad the rumours that the end of the world today 21/12/2012 has finally come to rest. I thought I won't see daylight when I woke up this morning instead I was greeted with a beautiful morning as usual. Though it is a bit gloomy outside probably the sun is too shy to come out due to the heavy speculation that there will be total darkness today. It is now 12 noon here but the atmosphere is like 6pm.

Well, December 21st was the shortest day of the year. But since the weather has not been too great I hardly noticed the days getting longer. I know it is only in seconds. But we will reach the longest day of the year and that is on June 21st. I wish it could go from December to April over night. LOL. That would be awesome.
