A bite of a kitten

Months ago, my auntie brought a kitten in our house. The color of the kitten is white with some color orange in his head and he has cute little tail, color orange. We name him Siopao because my big brother notice a small dot in his head just like the food "siopao". So, my brother name him Siopao. My niece, age 3, really love the kitten. She hug him, carry him, and even want him to lay down beside him. In my part, I afraid to my niece that Siopao might bite him if provoked or something and he was not yet vaccinated with anti-rabies or what. The kitten was given my my auntie to us because they have so many cats in their house and cannot able to give food properly because they are to many. My question is that, can you give me some advice on what vaccine should i give to our Siopao and how can I make him not bite my niece? Thanks for the response. :)

I ditto the previous posters. Kitty needs to see a vet. The vet will tell you what vaccines the kitten needs. In my experience, Kitten bites are pretty harmless. They don't usually have enough strength in their jaws to penetrate skin. But in case your kitten thinks it's awesome to bite, you can discourage her in a number of ways. As the poster above me said, one of the favorite methods of disciplining kitties is the spray bottle. You could also grab the kitten by the scruff (when they're still kittens they should immediately go limp) and give the kitty a good stern talking to.

I hope the vet trip goes well then, and your kitten is a joy around Christmas. So have a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Ola allyoftherain! Our little kitty bites and play with the moving thing including our feet, but it doesn't hurt that much since he's young and very playful. Thanks for the advice. I'll be visiting the vet by end of this week. Happy holidays!

Hi Shielala, your kitten needs to see a vet, particularly because your niece is in close contact with him. The vet will vaccinate the cat so you do not need to worry about what vaccinations it needs. It will need worming and flea removal too. Again the vet will help you with this or you can go to a pet shop and they will give you some advice. The kitten will not scratch and bite if it is treated gently and not teased. Perhaps you should discourage your niece from handling the cat too much and also be sure she knows that she must wash her hands afterwards.

Hello 41CombedaleRoad! Thanks for the advice. My niece holds him that tight that sometimes she had a scratch in her hands. We also cut the nails of our kitten. I'll be visiting the vet this week for consultations. Thanks again! Happy Holidays! ^_^

Cutting a cat's nails is quite cruel really and dangerous for the cat because they need their claws to climb to safety whenever danger arises. I hope you have only cut them and not removed them. Your niece is probably the culprit, keep her away from the kitten until is is big enough to cope with her 'love'.

If you have a young kitten, he would very much like to play, play and play! Behavioral play begins when kittens chasing and biting their own tails. Often this is followed by a chase, play fighting. The young kitten needs to see the vet because it's better to be safe for your niece since pets no matter how cute they are may carries rabies. Kittens usually like to bite though it's not hurt, don't make it a habit because when this kitten grow up, he may develop a habit to bite, even though it's not hurt as kitten, it may hurt when he's an adult cat!

My niece and Little Siopao really enjoyed playing like chasing, or sometime with laser. We will be visiting the vet by end of the week for the safety of my niece and others too. Siopao is our first kitten that is why I'm not familiar on how to treat them. Anyways, thanks for the response! Happy Holidays! ^_^

Cat naturally not bites humans. If they feel any danger or anything makes him angry then only a cat tries to bite you.But for safety reason you must give the kitten some vaccine and that should be consulted with the animal doctor...

I am a parent of two cats. I've always had cats since I was born. I think the best idea would to call the closest vet by your house and ask them for a recommendation of what vaccine to get. I'm glad we got our cats vaccinated because I did get scratched pretty bad once. I still got a scar from it. Luckily it didn't get infected because we vaccinated our cats.

Oh it is so nice that you have two cats! I'm sure they are so sweet and very cuddly. Our little Siopao will be visiting the vet this end of the week. And hopefully he will be vaccinated and cannot harm my niece. Thanks a lot for the response! Happy Holidays!

I have had kittens, many of them, and that's what they do when they are babies. They bite. All of my babies have bit me because they thought they were playing. Kittens can't hurt you. Their teeth are so tiny that if they were to bite you, then it really wouldn't hurt you, if hurt at all, then again, I am used to kitten and cat bites. I have a male cat who is full grown and he still bites me when he needs to get my attention. All of my cats have had their shots, so if any of them bite me, I am not worried about rabies. Also, it's very hard not to make them bite because many cats just do that. Again, they think that you are just playing with them.

As far as the vaccinations that the kitten needs go, the best thing that you can do is to take him to the vet's office and they will be able to advise you on what vaccines that the kitten needs at the current time. The biting thing is an entirely different situation. Cats are somewhat hard to train because of the fact that they are such independent creatures. However most cats don't like water so you can use a spray bottle of water to try to train the kitten to not partake in undesirable behaviors.

Yeah you're right! The water spray is indeed a help just like what others told me. He runs away and or even jump just to escape from it. By end of this week I'll be visiting the vet for some advice and consultations. Thanks a lot! Happy Holidays!

Hi shiela. i think it would be best that you consult a veterinarian on this. Also keep the kitten away from your niece while it has not been vaccinated with anti rabies yet. A scratch from this pet no matter how cute it is could possibly cause rabbies that may be fatal as what happened to our neighbor years ago. take extra care and had your kitten vaccinated for everyone's safety.

Hello Namiya. The kitten is so cute and cuddly. The problem is that my niece would probably cry and will have tantrums if she couldn't see the kitten. Her mother told her not to go near with the kitten but still she really love to play with him. There are times that when they play with balls and sticks, my niece had a scratch in her hand because she cannot handle but to hug the kitten. With that event happened, I was afraid of my niece. With your response I probably do it and consult a vet for the safety of others. Thanks a lot!
