First Ice Road Truckers now Storage Wars called Fake

Last Summer Rick Yett of Ice Road Truckers spoke out after getting fired about how many of the things on Ice Road Truckers being faked. The drivers on the show, he said, we paid to be on the show and it didn't matter if they delivered their loads. Also, he said the female drivers did not always completely drive their runs and some of the arguments between drivers were staged. Now Dave Hester of Storage Wars has filed a lawsuit after being fired from storage wars. In the lawsuit, he claims that the show planted good items in some of the lockers that help only junk. The worst case was probably when they hid a BMW mini in a locker and covered it with junk. You had to figure that the show was rigged. Why else would he same bidders keep showing up every show and why would the same auctioneer always be there?

I am not surprised to hear this information. We all knew the show couldn't all be real, as the same people at an auction just wouldn't happen in real life. I know many of my friends will visit a few auctions a year and didn't get the great amount of stuff some of these people seem to get on the show. I expect we will see more law suits from other shows in the future.

From what I am reading, the show 'rented' some items from the contestants so that they could plant valuable items in the lockers. Dave Hester, who filed the lawsuit after being fired, was supposed to have been paid $700,000 for just the second season of the show. In the 3rd year of production, the show began putting their locks on the purchased lockers so they could hide items in the lockers while buyers were not present. While filming, they would direct the buyers toward the parts of the unit where items were hidden. Other allegations are that the show would bankroll weaker bidders to make the show more interesting by having them win. They were also supposed to have paid for plastic surgery for a female contestant to make her look more attractive. This could be very bad news for A&E since they also run Storage Wars Texas and were getting ready to run Storage Wars New York. Couldn't they have stuck to running reruns of Law and Order: Criminal Intent?

I sure would have been happy with Law and Order, as the shows have had some great seasons. I really enjoy watching the first seasons of any of them. They had some great casts and the guest stars have been outstanding many times.

That's bad to hear, I like storage wars. It's very entertaining to watch them winning or losing in their bids and storage items. But since you said someone said it's fake, I've com to think that it's for entertaining of course so items could really be planted to boost up the show.

As I said above and have said elsewhere, it always seemed strange that the same group of bidders would always show up along with the same auctioneer. How do they all know they need to show up unless they were told to be there? Also the more I watch, the more it seems to 'glorify' auction buying without truly justifying their bids. The buyer will go through a locker and say, that table is worth $100, the stereo equipment is worth $400, that camera is woth $100, etc. They don't actually show the items being sold and the bidder realizing his profit or loss. This even goes for some of the 'special' items they find that they go and have appraised. It seems in most of those cases, they get the item appraised BUT they don't sell the item to the appraiser. While its great to have an item appraised, it only becomes worth the appraisal value when the item is SOLD for that amount. When you consider some of the odd ball items they get appraised, how can they expect to find a buyer to sell the items to for the appraisal value when they didn't know if the thing was valuable in the first place. The show auction hunters on Spike seems much more realistic. At least there you see only two guys who each week are bidding against different people with different auctioneers. And they go out and find buyers for the best stuff that they find.

There is also something funny going on with the show, Moonshiners. Which doesn't surprise me. Because if they were really doing something illegal, it's not like the cops don't know where they are.

True. There's only one moonshiner who had his voice and photo obscured.

Wow, I hadn't heard about the Ice Road Truckers one, but then again, I don't really follow that show, so I guess I don't keep up on it much. I had heard something about Storage Wars being fake also, but I didn't realize what all was fake about it, and I hadn't heard about Dave Hester's lawsuit. In fact, I didn't realize he was fired from the show either! My husband and I used to watch that show, but we haven't really been keeping up with it lately. It seems like all of these "reality" shows are pretty much fake these days. It's too bad, cause it really takes the fun out of watching any of them.

They've already replaced Hester on the show. I remember reading about Ben and Kate Plus Eight and some of the things they did on that show to fake reality. Among the worst things, they filmed a Christmas show, when it wasn't Christmas, and gave the kids presents to open. Some of the smaller kids became confused and upset when they were forced to give the presents back since it wasn't really Christmas.
