Vegan for a Day!

United States

I tried eating all vegan today. I chose all plant based foods and have not had even any cheese or eggs today. I had oatmeal with peaches and almonds for breakfast, and just had a sloppy joe made with lentils like I saw suggested in another discussion. It's not too bad and I do not feel like I am hungry right now... maybe I will try it just one more day to see if I can get the hang of it! Would you go vegan for a day?

I would have no issues going vegan for a day. Could I do forever? I'm afraid not. I do love eggs and cheese and meat. I do love vegetables however. Especially garden fresh. A nice tomato and cucumber salad. Perhaps some fresh spinach and mushrooms. A vegetable fajita with salsa. I'm making myself hungry! I like vegeburgers with chopped onion and salsa. Oatmeal with fresh fruit and nuts, works for me. However, some nice asparagus and baked tilapia with lemon and garlic would be aweful hard to give up permanently. I think being vegan for a day once a week would be good for you though.

I think cheese may be the most difficult for me. Life without cheesecake, I dare not imagine it! Feta, swiss, blue cheese, I couldn't bare it. Even when I get a vege pizza I want cheese on it. Tell ya what, someone else can have my share of brussel sprouts and I'll keep some cheese.

I feel so much better today I am thinking of going mostly vegan. But I really like my fish, eggs and cheese! Those would be the three biggies for me to give up. But I am seriously thinking about giving most of them up - maybe fish a couple times a week and maybe an egg here and there. I don't know - cheese has been a staple for so long I crave it! lol!

Those who want to try to do a raw food diet often think and feel that the fruit actually makes hungry. I feel everytime I try to eat only plants in a day, I feel hungry faster, and therefore need to eat every couple of hours. I do not mind if it's a holiday, but I certainly can not eat all plants if I'm working since I will not be Able to concentrate much if I'm hungry and I am Become Usually hungry faster if I only eat fruits and vegetables in one day.

It sounds like you are not getting enough protein by eating only fruits and vegetables. I am eating beans and nuts and plenty of breads - that I make myself. so I have not had this problem yet. I am trying it again today because I felt so good on my run this morning. I am thinking it may be the change in diet and eating lighter that is helping me feel better.. I guess I'll see! lol

I've been 100% vegan organic raw since August last year & have never felt hungry. If you're feeling hungry on these diets, you must be doing something wrong! The idea is to make a good go of it & give it a fair chance before we say that it does / does not work for us.

It would really be hard as I enjoy my Milk and cheese type products. But it would be interesting. I guess if I knew someone else that was willing to do it, or someone who already eats this way and I could be around them all day then maybe it would be easier. But having to work and be around all the different people eating so many different types of food, I probably could not do it.

Since I am at home by myself for the most part I can try it out. Even when I ate very vegetarian it was difficult because everyone else gave me such a difficult time over it. Here - it's just me so it really doesn't matter. I will probably use some cheese here and there but am really feeling better so I may stay on a very healthy diet for awhile..we'll see!

I've been vegan for a few months before. I always try to be vegan but I love food too much. I avoid eating animal products as much as possible. I find that I am healthier if I do this. GOod on you by not eating animal products for a day. That is the best thing you can do to decrease your carbon footprint.

I think I am feeling better already. I may have to at least remove cheese from my diet! That's kind of scarey I do not know if I can make it without cheese, but other than that I am doing pretty good so far!

I've no reason to be vegan for a day, but if there were a contest or something where I won a prize for doing so, I'd probably be game. I'm addicted to eggs because they are the perfect food. They have so many of the minerals and nutrients in them. I actually had some vegan or vegetarian (I don't know which) chili with my daughter at a local restaurant and it was really good. If she hadn't told me I would have just assumed I was eating some form of meat. I also had an acquaintance at one of the work sites and he was vegan. Several people had his lasagna and said it was wonderful. Good luck with your new eating choices. Is this going to be a new year's resolution?

I don't do new year's resolutions, but I am thinking about moving toward more of a vegan lifestyle. I think I will have a difficult time giving up eggs.. they have every single mineral we need in at least trace amounts just in the yoke. I just tried it today to see if I could even do it for a day. It wasn't too hard, especially since I discovered the lentil/sloppy joe stuff.. that was really good! I'll have to make mock tuna salad with garbanzo beans Morrow! lol

Hey if the garbanzo beans are mock, can you find some mock eggs? Do the egg beater eggs that are sold in the refrigerated section count as eggs on the vegan diet? I can't do the mock tuna because I love my tuna fish too much! I don't put eggs in it so I could give up the eggs for the salad!! I'll have to try the lentil/sloppy joe stuff. It just might be as good as that chili that my daughter had me eat that wasn't meat!!

I was a vegan for a few years and I absolutely loved it. I saw noticeable (positive) changes in my hair and skin. The only reason I stopped is because it was rather expensive to buy cheese and milk replacements--though I do know people who are vegans for cheap. Good luck! and Make sure you get enough complex proteins! x

I don't think I would want to purchase any substitutes for milk and cheese, I can live without them. I don't use a lot of milk, but cheese is a difficult thing for me to give up for sure! I will probably just not eat cheese. I'll miss fish though too. I may just have fish a couple times a week or something.. I can say I am only on day two and I think I actually feel better.. maybe it's mental! lol!

I've done it before, but I don't believe I could make a habit of it unless someone was threatening to kill me.

Haha! Well, not one has threatened me - just wanting to eat a little healthier and feel a little better.. but of course I might have to actually get some sleep as well in order to do that! lol

I went vegan almost year ago;) but today I had unusual day - not 100% vegan, first time since I am vegan;) I ate a little honey . If I were not vegan, I would go vegan for a day for sure. I love lentils, fruit, vegetables, grains. Since I eat a lot of whole plant foods I don't feel hungry all the day like I used to before. Since not everyone is willing to go completely vegan, I think that checking this diet for at least one day of a week is great idea:) Have a nice day, jazgottt

I do not know if I want to eat this way forever or not. I used to say I love my cheese, eggs and fish too much to go vegan. But I am not feeling real well (for lots of other reasons too...) so I thought I would see how difficult it would be just for a day. While at home it was not difficult at all, but I imagine if I were getting out it would be a lot more difficult for sure!

Congratulations! I'd like to see you give it a good run for at least 21 days (thirty days is better, but 21 looks more attainable!). Perhaps you would like to try going to 100% vegan restaurants or cafe`s in your local area? Ask them for recipes if there's anything there that you like the look of, then try making them at home. They could also make some good recommendations. If you want it really easy & money's no object, you would find it really easy to go vegan by spending "all day" in your favourite vegan eatery!
