No matter how much money i hav ein my purse I still look for the best buy and price. Im not cheap, I buy what I want and can afford. But when it comes to food and things. i look at all the store ads, and go to the open air market for the best prices. This am I got talapia fish for like 55 cents per lb. Last week here at walmart it was 2.99 per lb. Do you shop like me?

I always watch the price on things. I don't think it would matter if I were a millionaire, I would still look for the best price and stock up when I found a really good sale. I found cream cheese one time for 33 cents a package. I bought 10 packages and put some in the freezer. It was a little grainy when I thawed it, but I warmed and stirred it up and it was fine. Saved me well over $6 over time.

I was always told that the way people became wealthy and preserved their wealth was by doing just what you did peavey. Find the best deal and purchase as much as you can of it.

I do not live where all the stores are close to each other, so it is harder to check to see if this store has the best price, but I do check the fliers and often the stores here will give you a lower price if you show the other flier. I will stock up on cans, and non perishable items when there is a two for one sale, etc. I will shop also when it is discount day and when they are giving a percentage off the price. For instance there is a bulk store that gives pensioners ten percent off on their purchase every Wednesday, but every month or so (not on Wednesdays) they give a three dollar discount off on a ten dollar purchase and that is when I go there.

In the spring and summer when the snow is melted, I can walk to any of the stores, but since I get a ride, do not have to. Our Wal-Mart here is going to include produce, but I prefer Sobeys since they are competing with Superstore and I can walk to the latter. The trouble is that Superstore also includes furniture, kitchen stuff, and non-food items, and that is too tempting, so even though it is cheap, I would not save much there. Safeway is only a short way away from Sobeys, but it is more expensive and yet it does offer meat from animals that are in the field and not in feed lots, plus what you cannot get elsewhere. So if there is a good sale, I will shop there.

I really dont, the 3 major supermarkets are in a 5 mile area here. But im lucky my brother lives near one of them. And so he picks up things from that one. I then take a taxi to the other 2. And I go to the open air market by my home here.

I understand that. I can walk to a local market here. The others are a few miles away. At least I have the open air market here. You can usually find good buys there. Hope you had a great new years there....

I always look for the best prices and will pass up if things are too high. I cannot see paying more for things knowing I can do better somewhere else.

I am like you I find a good deal and I will buy something. You had found a very good deal on the fish. I buy the deals also so I have more money for other things. Things may slowly be getting better in my household BUT I have not forgotten how living frugally has helped us survive.

Most of the buyers or consumers wanted to have best price before they make grocery or shopping. In my case, if grocery I am not concern the price but if I do shopping I always check the MALL website and found out what goods are under their promos.

That's totally fine. I shop like that too. I don't find it cheap but rather, frugal and smart. As they say, a penny saved is a penny earned. What you can save can be used for something else important. I'm currently following a diet to reduce weight and it includes having a daily serving of milk and fruits, which I don't eat much before. So what I do is try to find the brands with the best prices. Recently this month, a certain brand of milk was 50% off so I seized the opportunity and bought 4 cartons that would last me about 2-3 weeks. Four for the price of one! I truly got my money's worth. As for other things, I try to check different stores and find who sells the particular item I'm looking for at the lowest price.

I love that word frugal. Im sure one of those types. If I have 10 or 200 in my pocket, i still look for the best buys. My mom was that way here as well. Used to make my dad so mad.

It all depends on the actual product that I am buying. I tend to use Asda for the majority of my grocery shopping because the prices are far better than most supermarkets. I even call into Aldi occasionally, where the choice is limited but the products that I do like are very cheap indeed. However, I will pay more if I consider the item to be worthwhile. For example I can buy Chicken Madras Curry from Asda for £2, but I will travel to Tesco and pay £3 for a similar product because I really like the one they offer. Basically, I will buy the cheapest if they are the same but do not mind paying more if the quality justifies the price difference.

I do that sometimes as well. Walmart here is the only store to sell campbells canned soup. Even though other markets sell other brands. I like campbells the best. So I have to pay 20-25 cents more a can for it. But its worth every cent. Happy new years.

On very rare occasions I will pay more at one store than at another. Those occasions would be like Christmas Eve, when I only needed one more item, and was not sure it would be available in the other store. It was worth spending more to be done and just get out of the store. I deliberately plan my shopping to find items that have been marked down for various reasons. I also will pay full price for something if it is something that has stolen my fancy. That happens perhaps once a year if that often. Many times my clothes are from a thrift shop.

I don't have the time to go to multiple stores, but I do compare similar items in the stores I go to, and I use coupons.

Yes, good idea. I used c/os at stores when I lived in the usa. Stores here in mx very rarely ever have coupons. Hope you are having a great sunday there. Also, happy new years to you there...

I think I'm in the wrong country! lol I like to keep Talapia fish in the freezer, especially the way I buy it, individually wrapped filets. I'm the only one in this house who will eat fish (that is not McDonald's fish sandwich or frozen, breaded fish filets) so I like that I can pull one or two filets out of the freezer and cook them for myself. But, like most other fish around here, they are expensive although tilapia is less expensive than the others. I'm like you and I will look for the best prices of anything I buy, whether I have a little money or a lot. I learned the value of money when I was young so try never to waste it. I wish we had open air markets around here that sell all kinds of things but the best we have here is a very small farmer's market where local farmers sell only vegetables and fruits that they grow in the area. If I want really fresh fish, I have to go catch it myself.

It really the only fish I buy. because of the cost here. My dad also sometimes buys it in las vegas, and ships it here. I like his, as they are individual wrapped fillets and frozen. happy new years friend. See you here next year.

In a way, yes. I don't buy outright most especially when I see that the price is way too high the normal. I just look at it and move on.

Oh yes, I look for the deals. Like you I am not cheap but I do understand that you can find good prices if you take your time and shop the deals. That is an amazing price for Talapia and I bet the quality was better than you would have had from walmart. What is your favorite recipe for Talapia, this is a fish I tried for the first time on Christmas eve and I really liked it a lot. My friend smoked it as an appetizer and it was delicious!

Yes i do the same, it became a kind of sport as well. I know the prices the different shops charge. Now we decided to only go for shopping once a week (it's cold enough to keep everything fresh in the hall so no need to have a big fridge). So my son and I went last Saturday morning for some shopping. And we came back home very happy. A lot of healthy, fresh food plus a fleece blanket for only 21.45 euro (we only have 40 euro's a week to spend which is not much). My son likes to shop (not me) and he was happy too (his big dream is to get rich, I think he will be one day since he is great in saving money).

Yeah because money is hard to earn so we have to be careful in spending it. I check prices at the same the quality of what I buy, it can be cheap but low in quality you know. We're lucky to find products that have reasonable prices and have good quality at the same time

I don't have much choice. I live in a remote area and the nearest shop is nearly an hour away. It's pretty expensive as it's the only one. The next town is another 40 klms away and there are two larger supermarkets but that;s all. The cost of living here is pretty high.

hi mariperalta. i do the exact same thing. before i make a purchase, i check out for the best possible price or deal that i can avail of. i don't think that buying the lowest priced item is already a good deal. i don't want to spend on something that is of poor quality. if it is a big ticket purchase, i usually read reviews before purchasing a product. i try to find out the item that suits my needs best within my budget. for groceries and such, i try to use coupons or purchase in season items that are priced lower than off season products. i also try to avail of whatever discount or deal that is available to me. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

I shop like you, Marìa, and I suppose that I could buy food without looking so much at the price tags. But there`s no need to give my money to the super. I check for sales in meat, milk and rice. I buy toilet paper by bulk when it`s on sale. There are a few things where I`m picky, such as oil. Besides that, I wait for sales and, just like you, go to the market for fresher yet cheaper food.

I always look for the sales. I know what its like to not have all the money in the world. So I look for bargains. And with food I shop at ShopRite by me, they seem to have the best and lowest prices.

I shop where I can get the best price and when it's convenient. Walmart is always cheaper (well generally) than our local grocery store, however, Walmart is a good thirty miles away. I like to go to Walmart on Saturday since I'm a third of the way there when I'm cleaning for my Uncle. There are times when the local grocery stores offer better prices than Walmart. I get my eggs at Save A Lot (30 eggs for $2.85) so, which is almost .75 cents less than Walmart. I will buy organic and local when I can with what I have to work with. I'm always on the lookout for the best bargain. In our effort to save money, eat well enough and pay off some debt we need to live frugally. There are only farmers markets available here in the summer, well spring through the fall. The winters are to cold for the farmers markets to stay open. It is so empowering to be able to live a frugal lifestyle and know that I am making progress. I love it!

I do look for the best prices. I am saving for my retirement and so, don't want to spend a lot of money now. I want to have money when I retire. Walmart and the Dollar Stores are places I shop for groceries. I also shop at another grocery store and sometimes, I can find better deals there than at Walmart. I always buy the store brand because it is always cheaper. There are a few items in which it is worth the higher price for the better quality. But most times, the cheaper brands are just good enough for me. If one kind of apples are less expensive than another kind, I will buy the cheaper priced apples. I really don't care what kind of apples, as long as they are fresh and they look good. And of course, I will buy them again, if they taste good. I don't have an open market where I live, so just have to go to grocery stores. But I do shop as frugal as possible.
