In my country, we have a lot of superstitious beliefs. The beliefs are pass from one generation to another. Thus paying any debts at night is bad luck. Do you have the same superstition like this?

True; my country has its share of these beliefs. Some people do not spend on Fridays believing that Goddess Lakshmi should not go out of the house on Friday because then poverty will strike[Lakshmi is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity and money means Lakshmi].

I think there is an explanation for most of the superstitions kala. However, I am still trying to figure out what could be the reason for linking Friday with wealth. There might have been some ancient customs which no longer exist, and therefore, we cant really correlate. Any idea about what ancient people did on thursday, friday, and saturday?

Vandana ! My guess is Friday is associated with Sukra [Shukrawar]which is the God of wealth a nd prosperity; therefore they would have started linking Friday w ith wealth.

Hello my friend Shavkat Ji, Well, there are many more such believes our side too. But I do support this as a bad oman to invest money/pay some on after dusk/night. Night is supposed to be rest time and not for shopping etc. so tehre is no question of payments. If paying at nights to someone may indicates wrong relationship/affairs. DSo restriction has been said as superstitious beliefs. May God bless You and have a great time

When I was a child I believe with those superstitious belief that my grand parents followed since then. But when I grow old and learn something not right with those belief. I set my mind not to follow those belief anymore because those particular belief they believed is not really connected on what facts they say about. Like what you said that pay at night is bad luck. If we analyze the connection on why we have a bad luck to debt at night. That reason is not acceptable...the truth when you pay your debt at night will set you free from obligation. In my opinion why those belief exist was that people in first century are only rely on nature to predict what is going to happen to assume something. They are scientifically proven or even if some are true with those belief. It doesn't mean they are all true...

Yup! That is the best thing we can do, friend. It's not bad to pay the debt whatever time to settle it.

We need to have word honor. It would be fine to pay the debts than having additional interest accumulation.

I have read that in each and every country people believe in superstition as such like black cat crossing the road or lizard falling on us or seeing crows mating or owl crying in the night etc. To believe in it or not is up to us.

I don't know of any superstitions in regards to paying debt. The closest I can think of is if you find a coin on the ground and depending if it's heads or tails to if it's good luck or bad.

I've never heard that paying debts at night is bad luck. I 'd say that the bad luck rightly comes from NOT paying your debts.

Nope, no such superstition when it comes to paying bills for us. It really is a good thing that I don't have this kind of a superstitious belief like that because if I did I would be afraid that my bills would never end up getting paid because I tend to be the person that doesn't think about paying my bills until it is late in the afternoon or evening. This is actually one of the reasons that I feel like being able to pay bills through the internet is such a beautiful thing.

Hi Shavkat: This is actually the first time I hear about this one. But as you mention, these are just "superstitious beliefs", for some reason, probably tradition or just a bad situation coming from the past, people start to think that doing something would bring them bad luck. People sometimes could make their lives unhappy because of these superstitions that tell them they have bad luck. ALVARO

Maybe the person who first began this superstition had a bad experience of some sort when they paid a debt after dark. More trouble seems to happen in the wee hours of the night, perhaps because people can hide in the dark. In addition, that is when many people have time on their hands and cannot get to sleep, and make poor choices.

Never heard of this before.. The way I look at it is, if I pay it off today/tonight, I will sleep better tonight because it will be off of my mind. Why put it off for another day when you can take care of it right away.... I took and paid off a few things recently becuase I don't like oweing on my mind.

No. I don't believe such thing. I mean not all superstitious belief is true. How can be that bad luck? If we have faith in God, I think all this superstitious belief would be gone and so, if we have strong faith in God, well, paying debts at night would not be a bad luck.

We also have a lot of superstitious beliefs in my country. Since I'm not a superstitious person so I don't believe in this but I respect others beliefs too. My grandparents believe about walking under ladder, putting your shoes on a table, opening an umbrella in your home and if a black cat walks in front of you they consider that as bad luck.

Perhaps, it is more emphasize paying at night. Though there is no proof if there is a true explanation on this.
