Messi set a new record again after being the first player to win Ballon d'Or for four consecutive times. The Argentine received 41.60 percent of the while Ronaldo got 23.68 percent and Iniesta 10.91 percent. Well done to Messi for an incredible year.

With the kind of form he is in, he is the red hot favorite to win any honors that his name is connected to. He is truly extraordinary. I wonder how long will his record stand - it is definitely not in my generation to see another player who can do better than that!

Definitely he is one of the kind and rarely would we see one who has so much influence. The other player that I can think of and has seen him in action before is Diego Maradona.

The difference with Maradona was that he was always in a one man team, while Messi is in a fantastic Barcelona team. That is also the factor why Messi could score that many goals. But skill wise I feel Maradona is as good as Messi if not better.

Of course who else can get more impressive than what he had done in football. He is even better than brazil legend pele .

I have not seen Pele played before so it is hard to compare. The closest comparison is Diego Maradona. I seen both in action before and how they destroy opponents and single-handedly haul their team to glory.

Given the year that he has had, it was hardly a surprise. What was surprising to me is the 34% who voted for Ronaldo and Iniesta. 90+ goals in a calendar year that too from a midfield position, that is amazing by any account. So I would say that he deserves it and it is no surprise that he won it. Cheers! Ram

Was there any doubt he was going to win? He seems to have caught the fancy of everyone in the world of football. The only thing I dont understand is why Sneijder didn't win in 2010 and Iniesta didn't win in 2012. What's the point of individual brilliance if the team does not win a trophy.

Messi had a fantastic year in 2012, he achieved many personal records in last year,i think he has been on his peak form now,if he can continue this type of form he will win another Ballon d'Or next year.
