Have you ever slept in class?

Have you ever slept in class, and not get caught for it? I find English class to be one of the easier classes to sleep in, the main reason is when I read. From the very start of the semester, I read by backing my seat and putting my forehead on the edge of the desk and basically look down. I occasionally place the book on the ground or use one hand to carry it. I don't mean to say English is boring of course, (considering all the foul stuff coming from our class room, it's very interesting!) though I put my rest as a higher priority than reading, and so far, I haven't gotten caught.. (though I've only done it twice.)

When I was very sick in 3rd grade I did, and the teacher hurt me, needless to say that she lost her job after that. There were many parents who came forward because she was hurting a lot of the kids in that classroom, and to think we were the smart kids.

It only took her hurting me once for my parents to get involved.

Gosh.. that must have been a terrible time. I'm really glad your parents and other parents finally decided to stand up for you guys, seeing as how that teacher doesn't have a very good idea on how to treat kids.

I had that experience. I am sleeping while my eyes are open. It is hard to do that when having a class. I don't want to get my attention by my teachers.

... I really need to learn how to do that. Is there any way of learning it or is it just through mundane practice that I'll be able to do it?

Yes, only when I was at school in India. When I grew up in the Middle East, school started early and we were home for lunch. This worked great for me. In India, I never got used to the 9-3 classes and would feel sleepy in class. I would sleep in class and never get caught...some of the advantages of being a short person and sitting in the front bench. In a class of 50+ students, the teachers tend to focus on the kids in the last bench since they are prone to getting into trouble. No one's ever noticed me sleeping right under their nose :-)

Yes many times We were a group of back benchers, who rocked the entire classroom. I really miss my school days where life was nothing but laughter and fun. We use to eat in class, play games while the teacher taught. Sleep in free lectures and lot of fun.

Not sure about you, but I remember being in Elementary school where we had a giant couch where when it was reading time, most of us would rush for that couch because it was so comfy. Our teacher during the winter would hand us hot cocoa while we were reading, and it would be so sweet. Gosh I miss that. :)

Felt dizzy but not to the point that I'm sleeping in class.I find Filipino subject as a boring subject rather than English subject. Filipino subject and the time will be on 1:00 pm after lunch break that's the only time that I feel so sleepy and cannot help it sometimes.

It's kinda acceptable in my classes. You have this one kid who would sit directly at the front and then address the class asking them to be quiet. the teacher would scold him and send him out, only to be replied in snores. The good old days :D

Haha, I wish it was like that when I'm in my Economics course. My teacher always seems to pick the people who are either love to chat or pretty much never speak through the entire time in that class!

The only class I've ever fallen asleep in was an algebra math class that I had to take in college because I didn't test high enough on my ACT. Maybe it was the wrong time of day or maybe the teacher's voice was too soothing but I would fall asleep most days whether I tried to or not.

I have almost slept in class before. But I felt it was hard to stay awake. It was in science class during junior high that i almost fell a sleep. I was way too sleepy. But back in the days when I was around either 2nd, 3rd grade in catholic christian doctrine school at church (CCD), i fell asleep in class. I was too tired and i was embrassed that I slept through when the class was over.

I have never thought of sleeping inside the classroom coz I was too scared of breaking the rules. Well, I wouldn't want the school to be calling my parents because I did something which i wasn't supposed to do. So, I was really careful not to fall asleep. But I do recall one incident of really feeling sleepy. But what I did was I just splashed my face with water inside the comfort room. And prayed that I may never fall asleep.

I slept in class once, but it was in the army, after a very long night. A night without a minute of sleep. So at the morning class i fell a sleep for a minute or two, and when my officer saw me sleeping, he kicked me out of the class to do push ups :0

Oooh! I can't imagine in joining the army and getting expected to be awake longer than twenty-four hours.. Are you still in working in the army? If so, I hope the best for you, friend! Hope you make it back safe & sound!

hmmmm yes, i did, when i was in college i was a working student so I usually wake up at 430am and work at 6pm in College until 900 in the evening. so I had two subjects a day, and everyday i work and attend to class so got tired in one of my subjects... my professor knew that most of his students were working students so he understood us. One time he was lecturing and I fall asleep... he did not wake up me, i woke up before our time had finished.

I'm guessing that you're kind of a morning person? For me, totally not a morning person, from when I started going to school to now. I'm not sure how you can manage getting up so early and feel pumped, but I'm glad your professor didn't wake you up. Rest is always needed! :O

Oh, I often do that in class when i was at school, because i always think that the teachers' voive can make us fall in sleep easier. I know it is not a good habit, if I can reture to school again, i will not behave like that, i will listen to the teachers carefully and grasp every chance to learn.

I have slept many times when I was in the university.I hated the maths that time and when having maths class,I felt sleepy all the time.I could not help sleeping or dozing off in the class. It was really painful sufferings.I should admit that I may skip the class if our teacher didn't call our names before having the class.lol

I did this all through my college career. Flawlessly. It wasn't anything against the teachers, but a warm room and a soft voice and er...those long hours the night before. I found myself dozing in my Geology class, tripping the nap fantastic in my English 300 class...and I floated far away in my Finite Math class. None of my professors noticed. I got a few winks, shook myself awake, and kept moving. I think the only time I REALLY went out was in my intro to Shakespeare class. We were watching clips of movies and I passed right out.

It's been more than 5 years since I've completed my studies, right question for me should be "Were you ever awake in class?" I'm so good at sleeping in classes, I could sleep while sitting on first bench and the teacher never used to realize. I know you won't believe but it's an art that only owned by lazy people like me.

You have not said what time you go to bed, perhaps you allow yourself to get overtired. I am also wondering if your English lessons are in the afternoon, because that could also be a factor. I'm glad that you find English interesting although I do wonder if the teacher does not give you the kind of lessons that keep your mind alert. I do not remember ever falling asleep in class but I do remember having a terrible job to keep awake in geography lessons and I do blame the teacher for that. After all geography is an interesting subject, and now I am a teacher myself (of English by the way!)I know that she did nothing to make the subject a pleasure or of any relevance to the class. Now I regret this and should probably make more of an effort to learn more about the subject, there is no excuse now that information is so available on line. I hope things improve in the classroom, or that you get some interesting books to read during the lesson that will hold your interest and keep sleep at bay. I wish you well.

Oh, the combined irony of staying up after midnight and having an afternoon course.. Yeah, that may be why I've had some problems with sleeping through class, though I've been able to get through that. More recently, I've been able to keep myself up in my English class, seeing as we're all reading short stories and essentially have to impersonate as student-teachers towards the class for a period! :D

I did not do it.. eventhough sometimes I feel sleepy in my class during my college days.. my filipino class starts at 7 am so I really wake up early but the problem is I sleep late because of the projects I am doing so because of that I skip breakfast so I can make it on time in my class.. anyways eventhough that's the case I still manage not to sleep in any class I just pinch myself so I can keep my focus on our professor..

Haha, see, for me when I try to keep myself up, I would get sleepy to the extent where I just follow through and not pinch myself, but instead let my elbows touch my palms and rest :D

I find English class boring myself. Actually I was a backbencher in my childhood. I often felt asleep in the classroom itself looking at my teacher. Teacher could not seem to catch me because he thought I was listening when I was not. Besides English I did not like also mathematics. I do not rest much but usually feel very tired in the middle of the day.

It totally depends on the teacher that makes the subject either really interesting or a bore to get through. My current English teacher is very easy to bond with. She's nearing her senior age, though it's as if she is 25, because when she talks of her past, it almost seems like she knows it crystal clear! But of course, sometimes it's just the subject itself that makes it difficult. One thing I suggest you doing is taking power naps. I think they are naps that range from 15 minutes to 25 minutes that are done every other hour that give you heaps of energy after each one. Try it out! I'd like to see how it works for you. :)

When I was in high-school,I was not interested in maths so that I often sat behind and put the book ahead and closed my eyes for a rest or thought something else. Now I'm a teacher and still find what I have done before interesting.

Hm, now that you're a teacher, I'd like to ask, do people succumb to sleeping when you teach? I'm thinking of going into secondary education when I reach college, but I'm not too sure, because I have that REALLY boring monotone voice that will eventually bring everyone including myself to sleep!

Haha...I remember my clasmmate. She was a math wizard, but she was always sleeping in class, and my classmates took a picture of her sleeping and posted it on fb. She didn't care, of course. They had a subject they really devoted for sleeping. I have never slept in class and I don't think I'll ever sleep in class intentionally. There was this time when I was so stressed out because I slept the night studying and finishing projects that I almost fell asleep in class. I didn't know if I really fell asleep or I was just daydreaming, but I really felt embarrassed after that.
