At the supermarket

Supermarkets are clever at getting shoppers to spend the maximum amounts of money. Some supermarkets give their customers reward cards to spy on what the shoppers are purchasing. They give me vouchers saying spend over 40 pounds and get 160 points. Today I spent 12 pounds and gave them a voucher for 3 pounds. So the bill was 9 pounds. I used 4 shopping bags of my own and used a double nectar points docket. I am not going to play supermarket games because they are silly. I will buy just what is on my shopping list. I wish to go food shopping once a week. I should end up saving some money this way. I look at a website to compare supermarket prices and pop to a supermarket to get a special deal. Which offers, deals and promotions do your local supermarkets do? Do any of your local shops play along with silly games? Like spend over 50 dollars and get something special.

At the grocery store where I shop most of the time, I have a card that I use in order to get discounts on quite a few items. When I get the sales flyer in the mail, I will circle the items that I want. I save money on groceries with my card. I do watch, too, to make sure that the sale prices are actually sale prices. I can also gain a certain number of points based on my grocery purchases for the month toward savings for putting gas in the car. I've used that only one time cuz most times I forget I can do that.

I know what store you're talking about! I rarely go to the gas station they are affliated with, when I do I only have my keychain tag and it never seems to process my reward number. I've given up on that idea!

I don't like them too! But there is one local grocery store here where they give you a $20 discount on your next grocery shopping bill when you spend more than $200. And since we always end up spending more than $200 anyway, we tend to go back there all the time. And their prices are cheap too!

That reward is brilliant when you do spend that much during your visit. I run a family of 3, my daughter only eats formula for now, so my husband and I are the only ones eating. I like to get out of the house so I shop every couple of days, otherwise that would be a great benefit for our family.

They have them as well. If you spend over a certain amount, you get extra points, and those points mean that the next time, you may get a good discount on your bill. Then there are the products where you get extra points if you buy two or more them, a good thing if you are going to put them in the freezer or canned goods that you can put on your shelf, but if it is something like salad, unless you have a large family, not much of a saving. Then too if you are a single person and it has a limited shelf life, you wind up throwing it away. It also depends on what you have to spend. I sometimes take advantage of these offers because I may have extra money and want to refill my freezer or my pantry. Other times, I stick to the list when I have a limited amount to spend. By the way, I think enticement would be a better way to express this then spying. Spying for me means someone walking behind me with a camera and peering over my shoulder.

My regular place is currently offering a price comparison offer against the competition..At the checkout,You'll get your itemised receipt, and another one telling you how much you saved this visit (or that you could have gotten the same groceries cheaper elsewhere...*) If you've "overspent",you'll get a coupon to that value for your next visit.. *but they DON'T tell you who the cheaper competitor is!

Hi friend, good to know about your super market activities, i am also in your sort, interested in buying the things whichever i require. We too prepare shopping list and purchase the things based on it, some times we get some free items for the things which is listed in the things, but we never increase our bill to get the special offers, if our bill is high and deserved for the gift, then we will get it

One of the rather clever tricks they play is to put sweets at children's level at the checkout. This works very well because the children have time to see them and the mother is too busy putting the bags into the trolley to notice what is going on behind her. No-one wants to hold up the queue having an arguement with their offspring so it is easier to simply buy the sweets. For adults it is more subtle. I've noticed that when they play slow music I move around the shop more slowly. This is particularly employed in stores selling ladies fashions! Instead of rushing around looking for the item I have gone for I stroll leisurely about noticing other things that I might choose to buy if I stop and think about it.

All Supermarkets now are fighting for business, your business, and they are trying every tactic under the sun to make you switch from one supermarket to another because of this damn recession, they will outbid each other on prices etc... I agree, it is just like big brother watching over, watching exactly what you buy, and sending you vouchers of what you usually buy, which in itself is a good thing, there's nothing worse than getting a whole load of vouchers off if you don't use any of the products! We always go to Tesco, my parents do and so did my ex and I, because it was convenient and closest and I find a lot of their stuff far preferable to their rivals.

Hi maximax8, Chinese New Year is around the corner and offers are available in the hypermarkets here. It's disappointed that many offers are not given to customers straight away. The offer is for one who pays in a single bill at least $50 usd. Certainly I won't spend luxurious on items that needless to me just for getting a box of Shandy with low price of 50%. We have to spend smartly to save our hard earned money and don't step in the trap out of our greed I can see a couple counting the goods in the cart on a calculator. I think they try to reach the target to get the Shandy with offer price. It's no harm if buying practical items and get the offer good at the same time Happy posting

We have one that you can use a card and get a lower prices on some things... On the whole, though, that store is more expensive - still... sometimes its the only place to get something - like their cookies made in the bakery are the only ones I can eat...

At my local supermarket they give out stickers whenever you spend ten dollars and use can use these stickers to redeem prizes. When this program first came out, I was so excited and bought a lot of groceries. Finally I redeemed a Winnie the Pooh Plushie. Now I still participate but I don't overspend in order to get the prize.

Here in the Philippines, some supermarkets are very clever and tricky to fool customers. They will going to put a promo like "Buy 3 take 1" but if you compute it, there is no really discount. I'd encounter before, I saw this dog food in a supermarket that says "Buy 4 get 1" so I bought it thinking that I bought 5 goods in the price of 4, but when I computed it on my way home, It's like I had purchase it for the price of 5 items and no discount. And sometimes they will increase the price 40% and put SALE 20% on it so they will still earn 20% more.

There are a couple of supermarkets on my island. One of them is quite large and you can buy everything there. The other supermarkets are smaller and less expensive. I visit the cheap supermarkets as much as possible, because I can save a lot of money if I buy my groceries there. Sometimes I also visit the large supermarket (if I need to buy something that I can find in the other supermarkets) I don't think that any of those supermarkets use points or vouchers, I have never seen something like that in the local shops on my island, but I have seen it in supermarkets in other countries. I never paid much attentions to those things, I just bought the things that I needed.

I stick to my list mostly. Sometimes I change a brand when another just as good is on sale. When I pay, they put some points that I can cash later for money in groceries. I cash it when I have about $20, but it takes me a long while to reach that sum.

I go to the only supermarket chain that doesn't have a reward card. I do hold a reward card for another nearby chain but rarely go, their prices aren't as nice and the ponits you need to rack up for anything special is over the top. I do perfer to go to my local non reward card carrying supermarket over any of them. I think the reward I recieve from that supermarket are low prices without being spied on.

yes they are very clever, also all the expensive items are at eye level. So you grab those. If you look high and low youll see cheaper of the same things. have a great day there.
