What is wrong with the movies today?!

Recently the movies in my opinion are getting less and less in quality. There isn't really any story any more. The most of the movies are today action heroes and action movies from the comic world. There isn't a real story behind them, just action. I really miss the movies that when you leave the cinema you really think about what you saw and moved about it. Don't get me wrong I like action moives too, such as Matrix the first one or Inception. Movies like those are both action, but also have a good story that makes nice to follow. What do you think about the quality of movies today?

Hi Jake, I don't agree with you on this, there were so many good movies released in Hollywood last year. e.g. Dark Night rises. Personally, I'll give 10/10 to that movie. There was everything perfect in that movie, apart from that Avenger was also a good movie, yes, it was a fiction/comic movie but nice to watch and the scene in which Hulk worships Loki was awesome. Bourne legacy was also a good movie. There were other good movies as well (e.g. Ghost Rider part II) but I don't remember the name of all the movies. However, if you talk about Bollywood, I would say, yes, it was a disappointing year.

I'm not sure if you understand Hindi or watch Bollywood hindi movies but if only you have watched these movies, you'll understand what a disappointing movie means..

Yes I think that Dark Knight Rises is a good movie and I did like it, but it is because it had a good story although I like the second one more Dark Knight where you really can understand the human nature and the opposites of good and evil as it is shown by the Joker and Batman. Don't get me wrong, I really like action movies, but they should at least have story to tell to keep you interested and not only the action such as most of the comic movies. There simply way to much of them at the moment. I wish they would go back to the 90's were the movie was based on the story rather the action.

Ah ok. No I don't watch bollywood movies since I don't understand the language :) I have no idea then what have changed during the time they started till now :) But if you say there have been a lot of changes and it is disappointing, then I have to talk your word for it, but I think then it is all over the world then and not only hollywood or bollywood.

I hope so too, because I really love movies and especially going to the cinema. I can then relax there for couple of hours and forget my worries for a moment and just enjoy the good story. But when the movies are just like all the others copy and past style then the enjoyment isn't there anymore and you can predict what would happen. Lets hope it is just a fase now

Here in mexico most the big stars seem to be in movies that come out in the summer time here. How about there??

Well here I think it is the same, although they also make movies in the holidays when people have vacation and have more time to go to the cinemas with their families. I think it is the best way for the movie makers to make more money by releasing them in the vacations and the most popular ones I guess is christmas and summer vacation.

You are right in a way. There are lots of movies out there and lots of movie companies that fight for the money. However, if you pay attention, there are still great movies comming out that makes you think about their story and the final outcome. You have to let the critics and the public come out first wih their opinions and go watch only those movies that you like the story and the critics about it.There are more action movies around because they are made for the young public who are visiting the most cinema theatres. They like action, so in order to keep them entarteined, that's the result. But all you have to do is screen all the movies comming out and go only to those that you like the actors and the story. There are good movies still.

Of course there are some good movies that been made, but I mean the number is much smaller than the action ones. It used to be like more movies that was made with a good story and not based on CG to make a good movie. That is why the are making so many movies today that are based on the CG and not really focusing on writing a good story. That is really bad I think. I wish they could concentrate more on the story and also on the CG too.

Gone are the days when wholesome adventure movies were box office hits. I miss the days when I would line up to watch these kind of movies in jam packed theaters. Our local films are mostly made up of the usual drama and cheap comedy.

I guess there are still some big box offices now and then. I think the movie Hobbit is like a big box office although it didn't do as good as the others Lord of the Rings. I think it is because they are all the same at the moment and people can't see any different between the movies any more. They are all based on some super hero that fights evil. Same story again and again. If they at least made a good story that would help.

Well as we all know, the action movie and the comic movie are more easy to earn money,so that is the reason why there are so many these kinds of movie nowadays, but as for your request you still can find out a lot of that if you careful enough.

Yes it is true that action and comic movies are easier to make money since the havea huge fan group that would like to see their heroes made to a movie. It is sad to think that only movies that is easy to make money are been done. The good ones with a good story they will be left behind since it can be difficult to get people to see it if they don't know what it is about.

Aside from making money in the soonest possible time, I guess most people are veering towards the "hero" theme amidst all the current violence and crimes going around. Just the good old plot of good versus evil and the good triumphs, which is okay. But I feel for you when you say that the producers or writers could have put more effort into making the plot a little more interesting and as you say, will leave you amazed after you leave.

I agree with you. Maybe it is because people are seeking for a hero in hard times as we have at the moment. Although we need a hero during hard times, well the movie makers should make an effort to make a good story, as you said, to leave the cinema wondering and thinking about it. This you would do with the first Matrix movie where the questioned what reality is and at the same time is was action movie. I think they can do this and believe the owe this to the viewers that pays to see them.

Hello Jake, Well like any movie taken after a written story - be it a comic or a book, movies have to last for 2-3 hours at most so they have to establish how to make it really impressionable to make the audience want another one (yes, profit hungry producers are usually behind this). Well you could go for Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter series (for sci fi action and adventure and strong story behind them - also the new Hobbit movie). There's also "The Shawshank Redemption" which I know is pretty old (1994) but I am quite sure you would like it.

Are you freaking serious? Do you even go to the movies? Here's a list of some of the best movies of 2012, which was, in my opinion, a fantastic year of movies... Moonrise Kingdom, Django Unchained, The Master, Anna Karenina, Les Miserables, Lincoln, the Silver Linings Playbook, The Hunger Games, Life of Pi, Amour, Argo, Sleepwalk with Me, Flight... Some of these have some wild action scenes to them, like the Hunger Games and Django Unchained, but their powerful storylines and captivating characters go far beyond their action scenes, and the dialog is so robust and meaningful. Even movies that rely more on action, like Skyfall and the Hobbit and The Avengers and Prometheus, have incredible action scenes, and good stories to boot. There is more action in movies nowadays then there was in the past, granted, because now they can make anything happen on the screen with the incredible world of CG animation, but just as that has been pushing forward, so has story. If you have a movie that is just action, people get bored, just like you are from the movies you're seeing. This makes it so the big action movies don't make as much money, and they need something better. I have no idea what you're watching, but seriously, look into the movies I mentioned, and go and see what you're interested in. The world of film is going to keep going forward.

They want to keep it more interesting and visualistic and engaging people with sufficient amount of violence to make it look crazy

I like the comic related ones, but the other you speack of are far and in between. Why because they do what sells, not what will make people think. You have to find good DVD's for that.

More and more movies are venturing into money making rather than creating movies for the purpose of redefining life and showing the realities of it. Furthermore, they tend to stick to themes that catch the attention of the public rather than formulating and generating new ideas.

Yes it is true. It is all about the money in the end and it is a bit sad to think about since movies are a great media to tell a story to the greater masses. One can really spread the ideas to many, but lately there isn't anything to spread. It is just comics been made to movies again and again. There isn't any story in them and you do know how the movies will end. I wish they would make stories like shawshank redemption which is an epic movie without any action and CG animations. The story made this movie and epic through time. I hope they can start doing these kind of movies and not only comic actions.

You are right. Now the movies is full of diferent effect explosion and shooting but dont have a real storie and a great ending(not always a happy ending)
