how the chicken got to your table

This discussion is inspired by a fellow Mylotter who talked about slaughtering chickens. Well, I was able to witness quite a few of these slaughterings of chickens when I was a kid. Back in the day, people didn't buy dressed chickens if they wanted one for dinner or lunch. They bought live chickens which they slaughter and dress ready for cooking. So this was how I remembered it was done. The chicken's neck is sliced but when this happens you can see the chicken wriggling, trying to set itself free. Some people can do this procedure all by themselves but there are others who do this with the help of another person who holds the body of the poor chicken, while the other one holds the neck to slice or cut it. In the meantime, water is boiled for the next procedure. The whole chicken is dipped in hot water, after which the features are plucked or removed by hand (at that time). When the chicken is cleaned of all the feathers, it is sliced into parts ready for cooking. Have you ever been a witness to this act?

the story behind it is quite interesting and also quite funny to hear, the boiling process is quite complicated and if anyone sees what is happening behind,no one will prefer to eat it for sure

I don't like that much blood coming from a live chicken.

Well, I haven't just witnessed this chicken slaughtering. I have also participated in doing so a lot of times and also have tried it on once. We do have chickens before when I was still a kid in our yard. What you have described in here is exactly how we do it. You really can find the chicken wriggling for life when you slice its neck and see blood squirting out. The hardest part will be trying to catch the chicken first especially if it isn't tied up. They can peck your hands out if you are not careful. Been pecked a lot of times before!

I also hate being pecked by chickens. But I remember having a chicken for a pet and it was so sweet. It didn't peck me at all.

Yes, when I was a little kid and we would go to my grandma in the province for some fiesta. And that is exactly how my aunts and uncle did it, they would get chickens from their own backyard, then do exactly as you described it. It sort of scared me then and after a while they would buy their chickens already dressed so I didn't have to witness it again.

I've never seen a chicken slaughtered, but my hubby is a hunter. So I've seen other birds dressed for cooking. He usually ends up with a few pheasants or grouse. Sometimes he will get lucky and get a turkey. I assume that most birds are about the same and the feathers are a pain to do for all of them.

In here if it's for business, they pay people per chicken that they dress. I wonder if there is any machine to do this procedure. I've always know it to be done manually.

Ewww definitely not, I have never experienced this being done, and certainly wouldn't want to, if I had to go out and kill a chicken before I could eat it, I think I'd never touch a chicken again! I just wouldn't have the heart to kill it. It's like fish, my partner had to take the head of the fish before I would touch it, there's nothing worse than trying to eat something when it's looking at you!

Most of the time chicken came freely to our table and suddenly gone after few seconds one by one hand cross from another. I don't like to slaughter any chicken. Never did since I was a kid. I felt pity with animals. I prepare to buy dressed chicken in the market

i do it. I can do it. without hesitation. Chickens are for people... there is no other way how to deal with them but that way. It could be cruelty for some eyes, for others they are... fried chicken lol. I am just kidding. It could be cruelty but chickens are really for that. so I feel no guilt when I did that to chicken.
