Did the TV coverage of the Inauguration really have to last so long

The TV coverage of the Inauguration on the major networks looked like it was at least seven hours. I just don't understand why they should devote so much time to it. Admittedly I didn't watch any of it since such pomp and circumstance just does not interest me. I had to resort to watching reruns of things like Roseanne when I was having lunch and doing some exercising instead of what I would have usually had on then.

It beats me. It's a feature of the American political system that I find puzzling. Why all this fuss just because there's been a Presidential election? It's a routine event, it happens every four years like clockwork. If it's the law that the President has to be sworn in, why can't he just do it in his office and get straight down to work, instead of making a big production out of it? It's crazy, especially at a time when government finances are a major problem.

Even worse by law he had to be sworn in the day before(on Jan. 20th) and was. The whole inaugural swearing in and all the festivities were just for show.

I'm not a big TV watcher doing the day. I guess you guys are not patriotic and don't like being a part of history. It was great to watch. I think a day of your shows not being shown is not a big deal, considering the President was taking the Oath for the second time. This was history being made and it was emotional and wonderful to see. I rather watch real life history happening then the garbage they have on during the day anyway.

I don't think you've got any reason to call people unpatriotic just because they don't want to waste seven hours of their lives on TV coverage of a pointless ceremony. There are far more productive ways in which people can spend their time.

By the way, if OLTL wins and gets back its characters from GH, will you miss any of them? I think they should compromise and give John back, but let GH keep Star and Todd. So far the OLTL casts have Clint, Viki, Natalie, Dorian, Blair, Nora, Bo, Matthew, Destiny...and I think that's all the actors I know who are coming back. And they really want the other three back, and since Prospect Parks owns those characters, GH might have to give 'em back. Also, Jack Wagner is back on GH as well as Genie Francis. I wonder how Jack Wagner is going to like working near Nancy Lee Grahn. She joked on Twitter that Bon Jovi looks like a drunk Jack Wagner. Wagner responded he's been a member of AA for a long time and he struggles with his recovery like many others. Nancy Lee Grahn said she didn't know that. I do not like Nancy Lee Grahn.

ideally yes because the tv coverage is just aimed to sort things out and also make people glued for sure

stealthy I think coverage of the inauguration in detail is important..It's a once in four year event and many enjoy the traditions and parades etc. No matter whether I agree with the elected one or not I am impressed by the dignity with which our country transfers power. Of course this time it wasn't so much a trasfer but it was very impressed and should make all proud...I was and enjoyed all the fanfare..

skyandgrassplot Obama's speeches are always good. He lovess to give them and they can be inspiring...He has a great talent to stir the people. The criticism is does he contradict himself in what he says and how he acts.....

This only happens once every 4 years. It's history. Besides, daytime network TV is rather a waste of time anyway. Soap operas, Jerry Springer, other 'talk' shows, silly court room shows. You're lucky. I still remember when Kennedy was assassinated. The TV networks followed events for 3 solid days and there were no cable channels then.

I was just starting college then and I watched very little TV. I did watch some of that coverage. I'm from Texas and it happened only about 35 miles from my home town. Getting updates on that was important. But listening to Obama drone on, as reports have said he did, about his liberal and unyielding and divisive agenda was expected and not something I wanted to do.

I did not watch any of it also. I watched some shows today that I had recorded on my DVR so I did get caught up watching some of those.

I didn't watch the inauguration either, as things like that just don't interest me. It really makes no sense to go through all the hoopla again, as he was already president. Anyway, I have satellite tv, so I am not subjected to things like that, as I don't really watch the local channels all that much. I am glad it is all over, even though I didn't watch it, as they made such a big deal of it, when it eally isn't that bif of a deal. What a way to throw away money. Take care, and have a very good day.

I saw that it was on and let my husband play Black Ops instead. That is how uninterested I was.

Wow, that is so boring when all the major networks are showing the same thing at the same time. Shouldn't there just be one network showing the Inauguration and the rest could be showing other things related? It's like a waste of resources for all the major network to be showing the same thing.

I wasn't able to watch because it is already late night in our country when that inauguration happened. Though I am still interested to watch it because I am rooting for the President even if I am not living there.

It usually happened, for it depend on how long? it takes for the ceremony. Ceremony covers many thing including security against untoward s incedents. It is a very special occasion and must have special time. Try to inject addendum to your field of interest something that you have not tried before it will be very interesting.
