Senate fight over some Biases and bonuses

Philippines

Hello Lotters, Can't you believe what was going on the Senate these past few days? Minority's complaining why the salary for them isn't high. Even Senator Cayetano explained that most of these weren't even documented. Now Enrile tries to just leave the Senate Position, they wouldn't allow him to, why is that? they better be good at selling themselves to the public, otherwise it's another mistake for the people to vote the wrong guys and gals into the senate. And I can't believe how i irritated I am when they mentioned Enrile giving "HIGH" bonuses to their employees! (HIGH!BONUSES!) Yet, people here and abroad are working their butts of surviving everyday and paying high tax and remittance fees. What do you think?

I was just wondering though, if giving very high bonuses to his employees no questionable on the part of Enrile? And it seems that his giving of high bonuses was announced so the other senators may know about it. How annoying Enrile is, for blatantly giving away those big bonuses, when other employees don't even have bonus, or is suffering because they only get low pays. No wonder, everybody wants to be in the Senate!

That's the way it goes I think. They're just like sharks fighting over who gets to have the bigger bite off the meat. They give us promises on elevating our way of life, our country's poor condition, when all they ever wanted is to get their hands on that precious country's budget. Greed can really turn the most honorable person to the most vile criminal anyone can ever imagine.

True and this practice was going on for a long time that all senate presidents are given this power to allocate excess budget allocation or savings on how they will se this for the senate. I really hope this practice would be stopped since I believe if there is any excess it should be returned to the coffers of the government to be used for other projects of the government and should not be used for senate alone. The excess means that senate is not in need of these funds and should be returned to the government and all.

I'm pretty sure that the Senate didn't vote him out of the Senate despite this because, 1) not only were they the ones who got the millions rather than the several hundred thousand pesos, but also 2) this is pretty much how our government works, so they're probably used to it by now. I mean, I have to wonder, would whistle-blower Miriam Defensor have raised anything if she was one of the million-peso Senators? It was obviously politically motivated, considering Miriam and Trillanes have both opposed him, and the Cayetano siblings are on the opposition. I do like that it's finally been out in the open though, because this was one of those things that was super rampant during the GMA administration and still haven't really been resolved now. Whoever holds the money is always in the position to take advantage of the people who oppose them.

Looks like Enrile played God with the people's money (quoted from an Inquirer news item). With rampant poverty in the Philippines wherein people have to go abroad risking their lives just to have a decent living, all these bonuses and Christmas gifts gifts at the senate running to millions of pesos leaves a sour note. They are playing with people's money, the taxes for which employed Filipinos are suffering from. It certainly is a pity having these kinds of politicos running the Senate and congress. It isn't surprising why so many Filipinos remain in poverty, why many roads and bridges are sub-standard and why they are making all the budget cuts in education. Now I no longer ask why in spite of the economic progress many families still eat once a day without any source of income aside from begging in the streets. These money they are giving themselves as gifts would have gone a long way into creating jobs and infrastructures to benefit those in the barrios who have never ever experienced having electricity. Now it's up to use voters to decide this coming elections.

That has been the way in our country for a long, long time. It's not something new that we are witnessing before our eyes: leaders fighting over position, money, and all those things instead of doing their job. They hurl stones against each other and usually had a lot of negative or quarrelsome people. What we can do is just to pray to God that they'll amend their ways and work for the good of the Filipino people.

It should be returned to the budget right after I posted my respond. They are spending our money for their personal welfare. It's pathetic move on our Senate President and some allies. They should felt ashamed to all Filipinos like me who paid taxes every month, quarter and annually.

hi Letran Knight thats sad what goes o n there.I am sure we have graft in our own congress b ut its more hidden than in yours. I can well imagine that this Enrile giving high bonuses to his employees is not making the working people there in the Philippines very happy either whether at home or abroad. r v

The bonuses given by Enrile were at his discretion, right? According to the news the money was for their own budget and not taken from the people's money or taxes. Is that right? I am just wondering because it seems some in the senate are washing their hands off of this issue and pointing fingers at each other. Some are bitter and complained they didn't get the million pesos other senators were given. Sigh.

Tsk tsk tsk... There are more important issues to focus rather than this..That is why our country is still not progressing because of certain political issues that happening all over and over again. This is truly sad, but this is the reality of our country.

Hay...I actually am tired of this news...It is really unfair...While some are enjoying high bonuses, we are still waiting for our bonus to come.

better give to charity. Perhaps, that will somewhat absolve their sins, past present and future. Then again, I am not expecting this situation to happen at all.

It was his allies in the senate I heard of who received bonuses from the senates savings care of Enrile.

The Philippine senate has become a quarreling body. It's a shame watching them like childish people, much so when you may say others are senile and should retire from politics.
