So there I was rescuing two lads in their truck who had got stuck in the snow, through their own foolishness. I had asked one of the to help lay out the cables I uses for towing and he was complaining that it was making his hands too cold. So, I could not resist playing a little trick on him. "Well e know whatey wanna do, doney" "No", he replied "Getta big andful a snow n rub it n yer ands" says I, "Till make yer ands go red ot" [This part actually works] This he does. "Now, getta big andful a snow n do a same t yer face and ed" Then I couldn't help but laugh as he grabbed a big handful of snow and rubbed it all over his head, standing there shivering Have you played and jolly japes lately? all the best, urban

That's a good one, Urban. Methinks it pales in comparisson to the things we do down here to American tourists! Have you heard about the one involving "drop bears"? That's a very old one. And then there's all the stuff going back & fourth between us & the New Zealanders - not all of it very nice, but most of it quite funny. But to answer your question... no I haven't. I'm trying to stay out of trouble.

The full story is quite amazing, with all sorts of embellishments added along the way, in the great Australian tradition of telling stories that we borrowed from the native inhabitants. Unfortunately, I cannot find the original version, but it goes something like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_bear (try that link for further references) or this one: http://www.museumofhoaxes.com/hoax/animals/comments/19/ I think one way to deter them is to cover ones-self in human urine!

It took me along time to finally get the definition of "jolly japes"...those of us from across the "big pond" don't use the same colloquial sayings as you do.... Yes, I do perform jolly japes occasionally, but nothing recently. I usually reserve my best ones for april fools day. However, I rarely get caught... Your little scenario should have been revealed almost immediately. I think you took advantage of some folks who were not the sharpest tacks in the box.

Well, straying 100foot from a rough track, downhill in the snow in a van is sufficient to show they are not only not the sharpest tools in the box but not a full box of chocolates all the best, urban
