I've been getting email updates regarding my dog Jazz, after I sent him to a special care home last week. I couldn't physically handle him any more due to his weight and the issues with the layout of my house, so I sent him to a palliative care home last Tuesday. He's been doing well over there, and has taken over one of the dog beds, has claimed it as his own. The last email I got was about him taking over the bed and the lady running the place told me about his vet appointment on Friday. His bloodwork came back clear, but the big mass on his rear end is a mast cell tumor. It can't be tested until it's removed, but he needs to lose weight before they can remove it. I've been asked why they can't just do a biopsy on it, and the reason is that it needs to be removed for his comfort. Considering that it's in his way when he walks, it's extremely uncomfortable for him. He is now on a diet and a strict walking routine in order to help him lose weight. I tried with him, but he just never went anywhere for me. He's enjoying the 3 fenced acres of the property and he loves the stream that runs through the back. He'll lie in it, then wander back to the house all muddy. That made me chuckle and it confirmed that I made the right choice in sending him to that home.

It certainly does sound like you made the right choice for your dog. How wonderful that he has a creek to get all muddy in. :) You seem to be a very responsible and caring dog owner. When you are unable to look after your dog, you found the best place for him. I wish all the best for Jazz. :)

So do I. I'm just glad that I didn't make the decision to put him down, it would have been the wrong one. And I wouldn't have been able to live with myself knowing that he'd be able to live a good life in another home.

Aw....yea Jazz sounds like he's doing really good. I really hope he gets to getting better and loses the weight so they can get things going with removing the tumor and doing the biopsy. You really did make the right choice and hopefully he gets to getting better.
