It is illegal to sell email addresses. It is a violation of the privacy of the people who gave their email addresses, however they were collected. If you sell them (or even give them) to someone else, that person will simply use them to send spam to those addresses and spamming is illegal.

It depends of the country : it is legal to sell email addresses in France, and mass sending emails is tolerated if there is a link in the email permitting to the receiver to be removed from the sender's database -- it is not considered as a spam if this link is present --. A good database giving email, first name, address and phone number can be sold up to 100 Euros/1000.

As far as I know there are many people who wish to buy e-mail lists. But have you considered if this is actually legal? You should have the approval of the e-mail owner to sell his e-mail. No one wants to receive crappy e-mails and a tone of Spam because some one made money by selling his personal e-mail.

Kane,
This is impressive. How did you get several millions of emails. I am not sure about legality but it must be legal in many countries. I do not know about if any legit site would wish to buy because all have strict privacy policy in which they tell you that you can not spam people and sending email for commercial purpose is spam as we all know.

I fully agree with you that it might be considered spam. As someone said just above your response that it is legal in France. I do not know if i would want that kind of emails in my inbox. Over the years I too have few thousands of emails but never thought about it and personally I am not interested in selling them too. But wishing you very good luck kane. I hope you get a good price.

Hi Kane,
I am sure there must be a hugh market for so many emails. This is crazy having millions of email adress. legal or not go for it. What I feel that if possible you should sort out the list country wise because you can sell the american and canadian emails at much higher price than say libiyan ones and american and canadian emails you can sell so easily.

There are some job postings over freelancing sites that does require people to make multiple e-mail accounts for their business. Usually, this is also done for resource firms to disseminate a lot of information and content from their firm.
Some virtual assistant jobs do require e-mail handling and email responders to cater emailing their clients from various email accounts. You can apply for such position on freelancing sites so that your email addresses will be on good use.

I think you would be able to find some buyers but first you have ask some question about how you got the list. People dealing with email marketing would like to know if this email are opt in? Which country and how responsive are they. At the end of the day, you have to do more work before you are able to sell the list.
