i think it is smart to teach them early that you have to work for your money and that saving is good. also that spending on unneccesary things isn't always smart. there is a great show called 'princess' here in Canada and there are mostly young people on this show who have maxed out credit cards or have a significant amount of debt already at the age of 21! a lot of parents don't take the time to teach their kids about money at all.

i tought mine at age 2 and 3 out of 4 of my kids got it right away my oldest didnt want to save up until this year , i thought teaching them young is the best idea they need to understand they dont get things handed to them on a silver platter that they need to work for them rather it be chores right now sence 3 of them are to young to get a job or when they get older like my 14 year old they get a job part time to get money for the things they want .

I've been accumulating change, but I think I am going to roll it up and deposit it - I'm trying to get the bank account as high as possible this year, so I'm going to throw everything I can at it. I do pick up change I find in the street and keep change from any purchases I make. I only use change if I have to pay for parking.

i hope you get your accout very high i am only aloud to have $2,000 in my bank account because i am on disibility and and my oldest son is on ssi so if i have more than that in my account they lower my check and stop his which i dont think is fair

That is the best way to start learning to save and realize that, literally, every penny counts!~ I still pick them up in the parking lot! I just cashed in my coins from last year and got $43! I dont' have alot to use in the first place to get change in the second place to save, but as I say...every penny counts. THat is great that you are teaching your kids to do the same. I am teaching my grand daughter now...she is very receptible to it when she saw how much I have saved this "jar" way!

wow, what your doing is actually an excellent way to safe. I am reminded of my college instructor who taught me almost the same strategy to safe cash. I was not able to stick to it though. Now I am trying to adopt it however not so strictly

I was like you, having change in different jars. Now I think it is better to bank it or invest it in something. You could at least earn some interest or get some dividends., plus it will be in safe hands. Have you 'lost' any of those jars of change before?

i keep them in the jars until full or at the end of every month take it and deposit it into the club accounts because here they charge you for haveing a savings plus at the end of the year i would have to pay all the intrest back in taxes so not worth it to do that , and no i have never lost any of my jars

That's very good savemoney4familyfun, I have a knack for keeping my change as well. I don't like carrying coins so I put them away in a jar as well. I empty the coins everyday, it helps me save money and have something to use for emergency purposes. I also have a separate jar which keeps the lunch money I've saved, it's about halfway full now and if I get it full, hopefully it will be enough for me to spend for travelling. It gives me something to look forward to and it drives me to work and save more.
