knitting socks

I have been trying to knit myself a pair of socks, but I find it very difficult to knit on the round. I am left handed so whether that is part of the problem I don't know. Anyway I got on to the internet and found a pattern for socks that is knitted on two needles and sewn together at the end. I feel ashamed of myself but it was just too fiddly to carry on. I can sew a very tidy seam so I am hoping that the socks will be OK. I am halfway through the first sock at the moment.

Oh Good! I have a left-footed friend who dearly needs a pair or perhaps 2 pair of left-footed socks. He has been looking for these socks for almost 40 years, without any luck. I'm sure you can can knit left-footed socks without any problem because you knit left-handed!

Did you know that a left-handed person always starts a journey on his left foot?

That must be because it is the one we use for the accelerator on the car!

I never learned to knit socks. My mom had the flexible needle with the two ends. She could make those old timey argyle socks. You see golfers wear them. She was talented with knitting. I can't do it. I just buy my socks at Walmart. I can knit and pearl and that's it. My mom could do cables and popcorn stitches. I never could. I can crochet some. I make afghans. That's my limit.

I have made an afghan blanket too, now that was interesting to do and I enjoy doing the small squares one at a time. Having a knitting machine spoiled me and now I haven't the patience to take on big items.

I wouldn't feel so bad because I'm sure it's quite complicated to figure the manoeuvres out for a left hander. I'll go so far to say there are probably many in the same boat. I had some lovely pure wool specifically for socks. I bought it back when I worked in a haberdashery store. However I recently culled my woolly bits and I have a dreadful feeling that I gave this yarn away as well. I was really looking forward to knitting some socks on the multi needles.

Some things we might think it's hard to do it on ourselves after we found out that it's easy to do it, we felt ashamed

I am sure that will turn out fine. I have knitted rounds with 4 needles. Once I got onto it, it was easy. But I was only making coffee cup sleeves. So just the tops of socks! lol

I have not attempted to knit socks yet. One of these years I will. I'm a right-handed knitter and a left-handed crocheter. When I crochet, the left front becomes the right front and vice versa. Can be a pain sometimes especially when working on buttonhole strips and such.

I learned to knit a very long time ago. And then I taught myself to crochet. Now I crochet more than I knit. I have a few patterns for crocheted socks. There is one pattern that I use almost exclusively. I haven't bought socks in over a couple of years. I think the knit socks come out too bulky to suit me but that could just be the yarn I used. For the crochet socks, I use sock yarn or smaller.

Hi there, i can't tell you how much i love knitting, when in my school days they taught us to knit socks for babies and even a cap and sweater. I did knit a pair of socks with the two needles. I find them easy, but i have forgotten some ways to do it now as i haven't tried them since i left school. But i developed interest for it since that time. I want to knit a black sweater for myself but i have been told it is very difficult to do so? Well i would request you, if you upload pictures of your completed socks later. Too excited to see them.

I don't know how to knit and I don't see people in our country knitting at home. Very few knows how to crochet and I admire their finish products. I love crocheting and I love to do some cute socks for babies someday too. It's fun to finish one project.
