Free Samples of items needed for daily living?

In my country there is less you can get for free. Except for a newspaper (at the station and some other places), a cup of coffee, tea or water at the supermarket (well it's a start). If you let people know everything is welcome with you, they do give you their stuff as well (things they don't need from clothes, books, toys etc) At the dentist office you might find over here some free toothpaste but since most people only go over there once a year or even less. We seldom see free samples at the shops or via coupons it's never free and most of the time not even cheaper if you go to an other shop. I can remember there was a time it was there once in a while but it was not really free. You had to send a coupon or so to an address so using envelope, stamp etc which doesn't mean for free. There is a dutch site where you can put articles on you don't need anymore and other people can come pick up for free. Perhaps you have a site like that also where you live? Althoug it's still the question if it's for free if you have to travel (a long way) for it to pick it up.
