i am a chinese and i have learned english for 9 years. but i still feel my english is poor. i have no idea sometimes when i need to talk in english or write english passages. now, i have been an college student. however, my english doesn't improve any more. i feel a headache. sometimes will watch english tv serise or films. it helps a litte. maybe i shall read more and write more. english is a tool after all but not a techonology. isn't it?

But seeing your this post it seems that your english is good enough only some grammatical mistakes but who cares about them when you are talking but while writing you must consider it.

I am not good in english as well. I actually took english subjects several times while i was in college, even though it is not my major subject. Yet, to tell you, english is my favorite subject. I really appreciate the subject much. My friends would really wonder why i speak english to them even if i can use our native doalect. I believe, english is a learning experience. The more we get used to it, the more we become better ones. If we continue using english in our daily activities, the more we become better. We may not be good ones, what is important is other people can understand our thoughts and concern on such matter.

Yeah, you are right. English is just a language for communications so that we just use it daily. I don't think learning in school only will improve english if you never use it in daily life. I didn't take any formal english class but i am still confident with my current english, the skills, i.e., writing, reading, speaking, listening...i try use it as much as i can everyday. One more thing, we should be confident with our english even though it is not very good, when we speak it out, we will know where it is wrong...

Wow! Your english is better than most people I know :) Be proud of it. Chinese is a very hard language to learn for most english speaking people. do you have a friend on skype? Get someone on skype to help you, you can see one another and perhaps, help you on your pronunciation. I love Korean dramas, and have tried to learn the language so I do not have to rely on subs, but it's very hard for me. the fact that you wrote this awesome paragraph shows you are really good :) Better than you think you are!

Well many college non-English majors have this problem, since English classes are much less than those of high school. I think language learning requires constant and continual study, otherwise every second language learner will find their language command not as good as before. So if you feel you can be more competitive in finding jobs, or if English is important for your major, keep learning, I'm sure your English capability will be improved.

Don't worry about it, just take it easy whenever you use english in either writing or speaking. You can improve your english day by day by listening english songs, watching english movies/keep communications with friends by speaking english, writing discussions in here, mylot, etc....One day later, you will be surprised with your english improved.

Your English is alright! I'm an Indonesian and I teach English. And as a non-English speaker, of course we make mistakes. But we won't learn anything if we haven't done those mistakes, right? So just like what the people above have told you, keep writing here in Mylot. It helps. I also have made my student join here in Mylot to improve his English. Good luck! And welcome aboard.

Well, then stick to Mylot, starting now. Me too, I do not consider myself to be very good in English. I found Mylot as my learning ground. I am eager also to learn more about English and to be an English proficient.

I know how problematic is to learn the second language as English.I also feel that I'm little weak in English.I know it's very difficult to learn any second language. From my own experience I would like to suggest you not to worry about your poor language and try to participate in any conversation with your friend in English. And one most important think never ever give up hope and keep trying...

Yeah, that's a problem that also had once but someone suggested a perfect solution. He adviced me to watch TV programmes in my language and try to convert them into English and record them as well. Than get it checked by one of your family member who us good in English. That will help you definitely...

Language is just a expresson of people. You no need to much worry about you are not able to communicate in english. Keep on try to correct your mistakes in that language, then it definitely helps to resolves the english speaking problems. Still my suggestion you can go for spoken english classes and study the grammar and vacabularies.

I used to work in a Chinese-speaking country. Yeah, my chinese friends also keep on saying that their english is poor though they can speek english. For us non english people, we may find it humiliatang to be poor in english, but I'm already fine that I can understand and write even just the basic english, atleast I can. Yours is already fine. I am not an english nor person whose normal language is english but i can understand yours, so its already good..

As a Chinese, I dared not to speak in public after 10 year English study. But now I can speak quite well. The main problem for Chinese owning poor English is less practice with English speakers. After I have to write in English and communicate with people in English, I have to open my mouth and use email. At the beginning, I always worried about whether people will laugh at my oral English or my email, but things came all ok. I think you are just a bit nervous, after attending here for a period, you will find you are good at English.
