Since I am now in my prime, I should always have a check-up on the various aspect of my health. But I haven’t taken attention to my breasts. Thus, my daughter , a medical student , told me to have a self breast examination, telling me through phone how to do it. So I did and didn’t feel any lumps whatsoever. But she told me to still have mammography , because not all tumor cells can be detected by self examination. And she said that prevention is better than cure. So, for her to stop worrying, I will be scheduling my mammography somewhere next week. It’s a good thing , we have our health card.

Thanks for sharing Dina I am happy you learnt how to do this, my daughter in laws do this in front of a mirror, it is kalyani who taught this to them , well mammography in hospitals is costly, but once in a year it is advisable for all women to get done.

I actually don't do it, because i forgot how to do it. My daughter just out of the blue called to ask me. SO, she let me do it under her instruction on the phone. Yes, mammogram is a bit costly, but it's for my good so i have to do it. Anyway, i have my health card provided by the company , so i won't spend any money.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u should absolutely go for it and since your daughter is a medical student she must have thought before saying it to you. So take her advise very seriously and go for it so that later on you do not regret your decision. What say?

Yes, i know that my friend. That's why when she told me to do this and that pertaining to my health, i follow. I know that she wants me to have a healthy body always, so i would not get sick and live happily very long time.

In my country doctors advise every woman to have an annual mammography and a Pap smear. Not all women do it, but it is very important. Now that I`m older, I also have to have a colonoscopy once in a while.

Yes, every doctor really advises women for that.In here in our country where mammography is expensive and there's none in community clinics, poor women just forgo of it, because of lack of money to spend on it. Luckily, we have our health card from our company. So, when i can squeeze into my busy work schedule, i will file and undertime or leave to have it.

what?! the dancing queen is five-oh already? wow! but then, i can't tuck in my shirt anymore like you... i didn't know there's a connection between having a hysterectomy and getting regular mammograms. that's helpful to know. isn't it ironic that when you became employed and have health benefits, that's when you stopped having them? because when you're employed you don't have as much time anymore, and when you do have time, you want to catch up on rest or non-work stuff or just enjoy like during holidays. let us know how it turns out.

Oh yes, my friend i am already five oh! However, i am proud that even at my age , i still have a fit body that my office mates would say, "you are are a sexy woman" . So, i see to it that i maintain my built by being a " dancing queen" as you said. When one has a hysterectomy, where the uterus or the ovaries are removed, you will not be producing estrogen, that helps in combating carcinogens. Thus, a yearly mammography is always advised. So, i am trying to weigh when i can have a leave of absence by next week. Well, the way i see it, i will be free to go on leave when my boss goes to Manila for her laser surgery on her sinus and a follow up check-up on her operation for indemitr

Wow! sorry to butt in, but me too! I really thought Ms.D is still in early 40's. About the mammo, it is really best to be sure to know if there's something going on inside there. My mom discovered her cyst through that. She was still in her late 40's that time. But the good thing was, it was non malignant. But she still decided to have it taken out because after she discovered it, she feels pain in that area (I don't know if it's just psychological when she knew about it).
