Trump Jr.'s tubbataha reef twit angers a lot of filipinos

Trump Jr.'s Brain Runs Aground w/ Tubbataha Reef T - Donald Trump Jr. is causing Twitter uproar. This after Trump Jr. tweeted that the USS Guardian is more important than the reef it damaged when the minesweeper ran aground on the Tubbataha Reef, a marine sanctuary, UNESCO World Heritage Site and a treasure to the Philippines.

According to donald trump jr., the USS guardian is more important then the reef that was damaged when the ship run over the tubbataha reef, which has been recognized as a marine sanctuary and a world heritage site by UNESCO. the naval ship is worth $277M and the US navy decided to scrap it and lift it off the tubbataha reef to lessen the damage to the sanctuary. the tubbataha reff has been considered as a national treasure for us filipinos and a source of national pride. and no amount of money can match the value of the reef damaged by that freaking ship. source: http://goo.gl/1Zi3S

Trump should have been more careful wit his tweet. We know that the reef is not of any concern to the Americans. But at least, they should show respect to the Filipino people who take pride of the marine sanctuary.

I ma not sure about it, but from what I understood is that they didn't intend to be passing on that specific place. They got off-course. Coz, if they did intentionally pass through those reefs, then they should be fully liable for the destruction of the reefs.

so that's what really happened. still they have their fault there and i'm happy that their government took responsibility.

Guys, give Donald Trump Jr. a break! He's handicapped for crying out loud. He has a condition called "bigfatswollenhead syndrome". The process of curing it is very complicated and could take decades to finish. What would you do if you have the same condition?

if i have the same condition, i'd lock myself up in a cabinet and just wait for my time to die. hahaha.

Very offending indeed for us Filipinos that a Multi Billionaire would just think of the monetary cost than the real value of the reef itself. If they would put a value on these reefs these is indeed priceless and no money can repair this reef as many are saying it would take hundred of years before the damage can be repaired. I guess the nature of Trump Jr. is purely based on monetary value and of course sentiments of US citizens who have spend their money in making that ship. I think it is just two point of views that have spark here. He should have kept his thoughts to himself instead of blurting it out online.

i guess it's expected from someone who's a capitalist. they don't really care about nature as long as they get profit. in this case, they don't want to throw their money away just for some freaking reefs.

Hi, It is an irresponsible remark made by one that is ignorant of the importance of the coral reefs on the marine ecosystem. He places more value on man-made things than on the tings that has been there even before he was born. I suggest he should be brought to the area and tied there on the reef to see how important it is. Being a certified SCUBA diver, the Tubbataha Reef is one of the destination that we long to be even one in our lifetime, it a diver's paradise, a pilgrimage destination we should not miss. I long to be part of the rehabilitation team and I am willing to leave the comforts of my present job just to be a part of it.

that's a good idea. with him personally seeing how beautiful the place is, maybe he would change his mind. wow great there's a scuba diver here. i really don't know how to swim so here' no chance i could go there. i envy you and at the same time, i salute your concern for nature.

The USS guardian no matter if it costs millions of dollars can always be replaced. However, Donald Trump Jr. must realize that Tubbataha Reef is a part of nature and a Philippine treasure which can't be replaced even if US were to spend billions of dollars. I only hope for Trump Jr to be more responsible with his twits. I am actually wondering if ever the accident has happened in the Great Barrier Reef. would he twit the a similar thing?

the great barrier reef is in australia, right? is the us and australia in good terms? i heard that the corals in tubbataha take more than a hundred years to form.

i am a filipino also and i am extremely disappointed on what he said about the reef and the USS guardian. Nevertheless, i idolizes his father not him. i did not even know that Donald Trump Jr. actually exists until this news came out. i am just ignoring him since his statement does not affect the decision of the government to scrap the USS guardian

Considering the fact that the Trump family got their wealth from destroying the environment... it is not a wonder why Trump Jr. would consider a ship more important than the Tubbataha reef... he another one of those selfish billionaire who care only of enriching himself more more and more... Yes they donate millions to charity... but that doesn't mean they have the right to destroy and belittle our environment...

What can be expected from a real estate developer whose prime method of making money is destroy the natural order of things. His opinion is freely expressed but I don't think that the US governemnt will heed him anyway. unless the US wants to have enemies out of a sudden, they should be amendable to the things. After all, who owns the stupid ship that crashed into the reef anyway. I thought that the US, with a ton of dollars for its budget would have a highly-sophisticated ship.

it actually is the US's fault that they hit the reefs. maybe the ship didn't have sonar. hahaha

That can be expected of the thinking of those who live by the money. They don't know how to appreciate something if they can't measure it in dollars. The good thing is that the US Navy does not think like the Trump. We should not mind such kind of personality with money thinking. The news should be about the noble move of the US Navy to scrap out the Guardian for the environment. This will bring more fruit to the retirement of the Guardian more than what it has previously done for the Navy.

Oh no! I Love Donald trump Jr., nevertheless he disappointed me this time. Yes you are very appropriate in saying no amount of money can equal the natural habitat of million of sea creatures in that certain belt of the ocean. On the other hand maybe donald was just very practical thinker about money lol. Oh well I am sad hearing this, he could had just been said i am sorry about what happen to the reef dang.
