Suddenly that blind man could see things.

A blind man was in the street on last Saturday near to the market. He was sitting there from morning onwards, but suddenly he opened his eyes and was running after those teenagers. He was begging there and those teenagers took the money that was on the towel kept in front of it. May be they were also testing to make sure whether that beggar was blind. I could see this in movies but this is first time I had seen in real life. I had heard that some beggars act like being handicapped. Had you seen any like this.

Lately, I have been hearing big scam reports even of people like this. Going around acting like they are blind or crippled, etc, and then seen later leaving with no noticeable handicap. They have even been confronting some of these people on shows like 20/20 and then exposing them. I guess if they are doing it for good reasons I could see it, but just to try and scam someone since they do not have to pay taxes then acting like this, it makes you wonder.

Yes I have seen something similar to this. I used to work in a money transfer business as a teller and our office is located near local banks in that area. There is this beggar who is crippled, he stays in front of one particular bank (Metro) to beg. We really thought he can't walk then one afternoon we saw him walking on his way home. Then the next day he passed our office again walking on his way home, he actually does this everyday.

LOL - I think you're right about those teens - maybe 1 or all of them knew he was faking it, so they absconded with his towel. What a coincidence, too - I watched Betty White's "Off Their Rockers" prank show last night, and one of the scenes featured exactly that. This is a show on seniors playing pranks on the public, in case you're not aware. Fortunately for me, I've never been "prank-ed" like this, or been taken in by real fraud artists on the street. I've heard of similar stories, though.

I have heard of this too, but yet to see it for myself. I do hope the intent of the teenagers are not harmful. While it is wrong for the "blind" man to prey on the ignorance of generous people, it would be even more wrong for the teenagers to steal from the man, blind or otherwise. I hope it also make others aware that generosity need not be blind, so give with your eyes open. But then again, the man probably just sat there with his eyes closed. He might have felt bad or shy having to beg. Did he declare he was blind in the first place? We all assume too much sometimes.

May be we should not encourage such activities, but wished he could have done some other job that is done with much dignity.

During my elementary days, some beggars would roam around the school and beg from children room to room. Since we were still kids, in our mind is pity and eager to help the beggars since they were old or handicapped. Then it was stopped, later the principal found out about the doings of those beggars. Some of them just gamble or drink using the money they have collected. Since then, the school doesn't allow beggars to go inside the school.

I feel if we give money they would be getting an encouragement go further in begging even though they have enough ability to do other works that could earn in a better way.
