Hello asliah. Every year at the end of our school term in early July and at the end of June, we will get informed to sign another contract for another school year. They used to have a namelist on the windows of our teaching affairs office, or call the names of those the school planned to keep for another year. Now they have changed the style by sending text messages to us. It is really a time for all of us teachers to feel a bit nervous as to whether we will be extended or not, especially for those who have a family to support. Everyone loves to have a stable job. I am not an exception and I don't like to move from place to place for another job because you will have to restart from the very beginning in a new place. So that is why we teachers have to work carefully and effectively in our usual teaching work. Thank you for the discussion.

Actually we had the same scenario in our office. My office mates are bothered because two weeks before the end of our contract, we still did not accept any note or memorandum that we will gonna stay or not. And so some are looking for another job and applying already. In my side, I was not bothered because, our tasks are not that easy and if the company will decide to end our contract then they will just looking for a conflict because they will look for another applicants and undergo a lot of training. After the revelation that we were extended, we are being relieved.

That's good news! Let me congratulate you and your co-worker because you still have a job! You are right, in todays world it is very tough to compete with all the other applicants when looking for a new job. MOstly everyone now are armed with knowledge and confidence so keeping our job is better especially if you are enjoying it than switching from job to job or getting laid off.

I am an independent contractor, however if I’ll be on such working position it is really essential that the company should inform its employees with their standing on their working position most especially contractual workers.

I don’t really panic when I didn’t get information about my work which will got extended or not. Maybe because I single and not have any burden of someone who I need to take care of. And actually my first contract got extended anyway without I was putting any consideration of it. I think even if it’s not get extended, you can just think of it as the chance to get the bigger opportunity,

Congratulations. It would be nice if the contract is extended. It would be nice if you become a permanent employee.

good day asliah, with regard to the last sentence of your post, before i used to do some panicking if there is still no announcement that i get from the agency. but, slowly i realized, if an opportunity closes, a bigger opportunity will come. so the panicking i felt gone away. instead of doing some panicking, i just chose to be relaxed and praying that God will give me a much bigger opportunity.

Hi asliah! Congratulations! It only means that you performed well and the company was satisfied with your work. Keep it up! Personally, I am working in the government and one of the privilege of being one is the security of tenure. We are somehow given an assurance that we can work with the department until retirement age unless we do something against the policies. Have a nice day!
