Idea

Have you ever had an idea for something that could make some thing that already exists better? My husband submitted an idea on line and now people are calling him about the idea. My husband is very imaginative and can make useful things out of things that are just laying around the house. Now apparently this company that keeps calling about the idea seems interested in this idea, but we're skeptical about it. Apparently it's a good idea, but why don't we go to a company that would actually make it or maybe even check out about making a patent for it? My husband has had another instance that he told some one about his idea and that person took his idea and made money off of it. So I guess for now, the *secret* is safe with us until we decide how we want to pursue with it.

I've never come up with a way to improve an existing idea, but I have come up with an idea. So far, I haven't seen anyone else actually bring it to the market, but I'm hesitant to bring it to someone to manufacture it. And yesterday, I came up with an improvement for my idea! I'm not sure how to create the idea into a prototype, or who to approach about marketing it.

In my case, I have lots of ideas about things I wanted to invent or make improvements in existing products. I think being an inventor is such an interesting career, but I never pursued my ideas yet in actuality. Maybe someday I could make large profits from the myriads of ideas I have in my mind. Sorry I can't post those ideas because someone might be able to steal it from me. LOL

I totally understand what you mean about the fear of someone stealing your idea. A few things I've thought about in the past have been made, although they were by total strangers and could have never stolen MY idea because they obviously thought of their own. It's hard to come up with new things consistently as a career though it does sound exciting.

There are some company that are looking for new ideas and concepts. I encountered like a few online. I may have ideas, but I wish I would have that Einstein like mind. Is your husband an engineer? He could probably be on the way to prosperity. Just my thought.

I had an idea but not the money or time to pursue it. I think with your husband, keeping his idea under wraps until he goes to a company that will develop it is best. Blabbing it out to every person in the area would be tempting anyone to use the idea as his own and claim the credit. Waiting to see his invention on AS Seen on TV.

Long ago and far away, I misread "heart-shaped candies" as "heart-shaped candles", which gave me an idea for a painting... I sold said painting at a show and soon after that, heart-shaped candles started appearing on the market. I'm not saying the two are related, but I do wonder sometimes.

The idea may or may not be safe. Whoever gets the patent first will have all the rights to this said idea.If your husband has people calling him about it, it must be something pretty good. Better go and see about getting a patent before someone beats you to it.

You are right, you can't trust anyone now a days. I have had this happen as well, and the person who steals the idea denies ever stealing it, or saying you wouldn't do anything with it. I hope something comes of it, and you make some money off of it.

I agree with the others who mentioned something about getting a patent for it, and preferably before a company starts manufacturing it. Some businesses who have little to no moral scruples are fine with stealing ideas. Been this way for hundreds, if not thousands, of years, eg. the telephone, even Facebook.

Good for you and I hope it works out that you get to make some money off it! I know it's hard to get a patent by yourself...hopefully this company will work with you so you can get rewards from his idea!

I'd seek a patent for it forsure! Why let someone else make money off of his idea. Too bad you couldn't get on a show like sharktank or ? Even if you have an idea you have to eventually may have to prove it's marketability, have sales, and find somewhere to produce the item. I know an idea I had when I was a kid is out there and I don't know if anyone made a profit of the idea. But it was to just take a portion of another products package and adapt it to another and many things now have their product packaged that way.

In my country (and I bet that in many other countries too) there is such a thing as intellectual property. It is not as expensive as a patent, but anyone who wants to develop whatever it it, has to ask for your permission and that could mean money. I do tthat before I edit one of my books.

Your husband's brain is your bucket of gold! I am so excited for you on this, Stoutjodee! I hope you get to have the perfect company for that! You'd be all over the place when that happens! Good luck!

I remember having a few very good ideas...but a few friends of mine told me that those weren't profitable or they will be to difficult to pull them off with too much work involved plus I had no money as a starting fund... so my motivation was completely gone and half a year later or so other people had started companies which are based on those ideas...So those ideas must have been good and it felt almost like someone had listened to my conversations about them... Next time when I think of a good one I will do everything for it to become real ;) I hope you guys can make your ideas come true. I wish you all the best.

Having the idea is only a start. You need to conduct feasibility study and also whether the idea can be actualised. I am sure there are good companies out there who will want to work with your husband, OR maybe your husband should approach some government agencies for funding to start his own. With his bank of ideas, sooner or later both of you will hit jackpot. When that happens, don't forget mylot...and don't forget me, ok?

Hi STOUTjodee, greetings. I would suggest that whatever the idea your husband has, you better put it into action immediately. It may be that there are somebody out there, who already have the same or similar idea.

That's right, you may have the idea but you don't have capital to start. Giving the information to those people who got some capital and found your idea to be commendable then you will earn nothing, specially if it is not patented. He will grab all the credits and nothing for you.
