Hi, You can make your present setup faster by upgrading the RAM to 4GB, install a 1GB VRAM video graphics adapter and a 500GB HDD. Comp tech who can do a black box don't go for branded per-assembled units for they are expensive, the same specs can be had for a lower price if the parts are bought separately and assembled at home.

I believe you can change the processor as long as the socket match, processor is small chips located at the bottom of your heatsink(between motherboard and fan+heatsink), it should be replacable in any motherboard.

@rog i will try... @sampathx Machan can't change the processor because it is pasted on the Mboard.

This also a good low cost solution... if your motherboard support at least DUAL-CORE processor...

If you are going to buy computer these days I would highly suggest you to go for motherboard with a LGA 1155 processor socket and If you have more money buy a motherboard that supports a USB 3. It'll be more cost effective if you assemble a machine rather buying branded machine. anyway for motherboard and processor I am recommending INTEL. According to your budget you can choose processors like core i3, core i5 or core i7(if you want super fast). After choosing processor and motherboard next you have to think about the RAM type. Most probably, the board that I suggested have DDR3 RAM slots. think about the capacity. anyway 4GB is recommended.it'll be most effective with the cost (Samsung,Kingston, Transcend,HP,Compaq are good brands). Now it's time to think about the Hard disk... Oh man... buy as largest Hard disk you can :D . If you can 1.5GB or what ever.any way try to buy at least 320GB HDD. Then you have to think about the VGA. you will have great built in at least 768MB graphic card with the board that I sugessted... But If you are Gamer built in graphic cannot help you. you have to go for VGA like NVIDIA GEFORCE,ATI(different models are there with different capacity 512MB,1GB,2GB etc... just visit manufactures website). Now you have made your computer(fast-super fast depend on your budget.anyway even you use minimum configuration that I suggest you have a great speed) But there are few thing remains If you are going to assemble your computer by your self or with a friend if you buy branded just think about the configuration I above explained. Choose a good casing for your computer with at least 400W power supply buy SATA DVD writer(you may already have it) you can use your old hard disk with new one you have to buy coolers for the processor(salesmen will help you with that) when you assemble put Heat-sink "compound cream" between processor and cooler you won't have to worry about Sound and network card this boards contains good built in chips finally plug it correctly. :D good luck

All I can tell you is that I was disappointed in the last HP computer I bought. The first one was fine, but the second one was junk. I have been thinking I'll go with Dell next time. You'll have to do a lot of research to find the one that suits you because there are so many choices!

All I meant was that my last experience with HP was not good. Take that for what it's worth.

Firstly you need to appreciate the difference between AppleMacs and PCs. AppleMacs run there own operating system, PCs run Windows or Linux. Therein lies your first choice, now AppleMacs are a better system but their software tends to be more expensive Of PCs HP are a good choice all the best, urban

"Therein lies your first choice." 'Lies' as in 'lays' not 'falsehoods' This is your the first decision you need to make, AppleMac or PC all the best, urban

Apple Mac is a great system... but applications will be more expensive and When you buy apple Mac you can buy at least 2 PCs with same configuration...

There is no the best single brand for a computer, every brand has their pros and cons, just think about what will you gonna do with your computer however below spec should be enough even for a hardcore gamer : Motherboard with AM3 socket with at least 4 ddr3 ram slots AMD Processor with at least 4core@3Ghz 4x2GB RAM 1TB HDD (7200rpm or more) DVD-RW or Bluray Graphic card from NVIDIA or RADEON with at least 1gb dedicated PSU with at least 750w Additional cooling fan

I never buy from eBay, so i can't tell anything about it.. Usually i buy it on local computer store, for such a spec it would cost about 500$ here but yours may be different. That's not including the monitor, if you want to really cut down the cost, get AMD processor with 2cores@3Ghz as you might not need 4cores processor at all. Then ~500$ will be enough for a complete ready-to-use desktop.
