I have told you here several times that my youngest daughter is a judge. I can say, because I`m her mother, that she is a very good judge too. But today she made world news with a decision that the chilean Government has to pay some people who were tortured during the time of dictator Pinochetand sent to Isla Dawson. The Government will appeal though. Shame, because the violation of human rights should be defended by the governments all the time. Whatever comes out at the end of the story, she was just and brave. Her father would have been proud of her too.

Thank you, hereandthere. I was raised in good values and I was lucky enough to marry a wise man. Thus, our daughters are both people to be proud of. I just wanted to share this with you because it is the first time that a chilean judge gives a big monetary compensation to victims of torture during the dictatorship in my country. The State will appeal though. Memory is short I also wanted to share that.

I am. Thank you. I wish more people did that everywhere. This world would be better. I like to watch those TV shows where people work so hard to save whales and other endangered species. I feel that justice is also an endangered principle.

It feels great to know that there are good people out there providing justice. Congratulations on having such a wonderful individual as your daughter. I'm sure she would credit her parents for raising her right. It is you who gave her the strength and courage to be an upstanding person she is today. You should be proud of yourself too :)

We come from a family with strong values. But when politics and power get in between, it`s not so easy to remember our principles as there are always personal threats.

It must be really difficult... The courage is remarkable given the threats! I will pray for her safety and well being.

hi there! I am sure you have been a really good example to her and with determination, bravery she is making a name for herself now with these major decisions she make to be just and fair. =) I hope every mom and every Judge would be like her. Standing by her principles and what she believes in. Rarely do we see someone still intact with their beliefs and principles when exposed to so many corruption in the government. I guess with you around as her guide and mentor... she would be very successful. I pray for your health, safety and for her decisions to be as it should be. =) Have a great day and happy mylotting.

She wouldn`t get me out of jail if it was against her principles. We have often talked about this and I do wish there were more people like her. We would be more sure.

Wow! Good for her. I can see why you're very proud of your daughter. Sadly, that's the way most governments roll - more emphasis on money, forget about justice. Hope she wins at the end.

In this case it was a trial agaist the Government. ·0 ex prisoners of Pinochet regime want a reparation from the Government. After my daughter`s verdict, there is an appeal at a higher Oourt. But still, she has set a precedence.

Heck, I don't even know your daughter, but I have to say that I'm really happy with the decision that she made as well. I think that it happens far too often that people really don't think about the rights of other human beings when they make some of the decisions that they make. I hope that when this story is completely said and done that the decision that your daughter has made in this case will be something that is ultimately upheld.

I hope so too, Dorann. These people have suffered a lot and for a long time and I think that this might help them have a closure of sorts.

Justice for the common people who really deserve it is not easy these days particularly if money and power are at work. What your daughter did despite the pressure is really something a mother should be proud of. Hats off to you for raising up a daughter of great values and courage.

Thank you. I hope that the appeal does not change her verdict. Those people need some reparation as part of a closure.

Although we don`t yet know the outcome as the Government will appeal, her decision has set a precedent.

Congratulations Marguicha, you have every right to be proud of your daughter. This is the best reward for your efforts to raise an excellent child. You have to be proud of your country too because the government already pays compensations to thousands of victims of the regime. Tragedies happen everywhere but the point is to find a civilized solution.

The government hasn`t paid so far. This is a first instance, but the Government will appeal. It is 30 people, all victims of torture. And if the Government pays, it will set a precedent.

My daughter has always worked in Courts of Justice but this is her biggest case as a judge. It has to do with justice and human rights and the need to repair as much as it can be done whatever Dictators do when in power.
