I had several times, I do not know why I had given that money that girl who was too small to go for begging. It occurred several times when I see such things in life. At times I do felt sympathy but was not in position to help. Mostly my financial side is affected while falling into sympathetic approaches, especially those begging people who are handicapped, who shows their hunger visible, those people who eat the left over of others so on could attain sympathy…. At times some sympathy should be misjudged. As all those who come to us are not liable for sympathy.

There was once a little boy that is begging for alms in front of the charge near my office then. One day, I am going home and I passed by him, he is near tears and he says he hasn't eaten anything for days. He is so dirty and he's so puny my heart just hurts looking at him. He got my sympathy and I gave him some money. Now I only had enough money then for a cab, and I badly need to get one because I am bringing lots of paperwork so I can work during the weekends at home to finish my reports. If I give him some money, I will only have enough money left for the subway. And having lots of stuff to lug around, the subway isn't really a good idea. Still I gave him the money and he was so thankful. Then when I was just a couple of steps away from him, I remembered I have some leftover donuts in my bag from our snacks. I decided to give it to him as well. When I turned around, I saw him enter the computer shop and since the shop's windows are see-thru glass, I saw him give the money to the shop owner and he went in one of the vacant computers to play. From that day onwards, I ignore my sympathetic self and decided to help in the proper way. So I learned not to give alms as easily like that because it is not really helping them any.

Yeah sometimes it's just misplaced sympathy. Some also can win an Oscar by their acting. This happened to a friend of mine once. Some lady by the bus terminal asked him for $2 for a bus ticket and that she would go home. She said she ran out of money. He didn't mind giving that amount because the important thing for him was to help her even though he was on a hurry. When he finally caught a cab, he saw the same woman asking for money again across the street and spinning a different story. He felt cheated.

That would tend us to not to believe in sympathy and this would effect the real one too. Thanks for sharing and nice responds.
