Are TESDA Courses in Cooking or Culinary really good, or outdated?

I remember my mother enrolled in a local Tesda center here in our place, when I was still in highschool. That's about 15 years ago, and the teachers or trainers were old and cranky. If they have the same type of staff, I doubt if they are able to compete with the bigger culinary schools. But, I loved the food and pastries that my mother brought home for us, after their session. I'm just not sure if there have been updated courses there. I tried searching online, but I can't get to the right place. Anybody here who knows about their available courses and a website to view more details.

Not really, it is the BASICS that you need to learn, like measuring, and putting on.. Other ways, you can surf the net for recipe and for other stuff. You can also make your own recipe. It is okay to take those courses in TESDA, you are also supporting the government's program

Well, my purpose for studying cooking or culinary is for me to understand the fundamentals in theory and practice, so that I can experiment more and be comfortable cooking anything I can think of. Like, understand and know more about spices, sauces, cooking techniques, etc.. I'm the type who needs to know the theory side, to understand things better.

Hi, I don't know about culinary schools a lot although I have a coworker who enrolled in baking classes. Some of the samples were given to use and they were all good. My husband on the other hand, enrolled at a massage therapy class two years ago. One time we had a neighbor who had a mild attack, my husband helped my neighbor and this nursing student, another neighbor, because my husband knew something about first aid that the schools were not teaching but was taught in TESDA. He learned some first aid in TESDA, not just the massage therapy.

Hi jureathome, hi there! hope you are doing very well. :D I am not aware of what courses TESDA offers, but i think they no longer have culinary courses. More of what they have right now are probably concentrated on skills that could help those who enrolled to be hired abroad for a job. Most of those i knew that went to tesda for courses only includes a parcel of the HRM - hotel management - household management, and for the technical side, there is welding courses, and related. I will try to see if i can find the list, and give it you :D

Why not try inquiring with TESDA for this. When I was still working in a hotel, at one time our HR department had tied up with TESDA for housekeeping and culinary courses and the trainees had actual hotel operation duties related to the courses they had enrolled with.

I think that at TESDA, they teach the basics of cooking only and the techniques that they knew from the past. But if you want to learn a lot more, especially the newer techniques, it is best to enroll at those culinary schools. Here is the website I found: http://www.tesda.gov.ph/page.aspx?page_id=132

I guess TESDA was made to add skill to a person who wants to take a certain course there. I don't think it can compete to culinary schools because they offer different. Things are not complete in tesda too I guess. But it is a good thing that Tesda offers courses. Some courses are being linked to schools. If you are looking for available TESDA courses, try finding it by asking to your municipal or provincial building, That is the way it is here in my municipality and my province. They post what the provincial government offers. I had taken some short courses there under TESDA. I like attending to free seminars and trainings for my future use and to widen my knowledge. I hope you can find one there in your area
