Clean for a while

Greece

The beach is clean, the roads leading to the beach are clean, the bins are empty and the countryside is waiting for Spring to arrive. Everything looks clean and beautiful and when the wild flowers break out of the damp earth Greece will be clothed in its best. However, Spring will herald the arrival of visitors which will mean cars on the road and mess on the beaches. I do hope that this year people will be more considerate and take note of the clean edges on the roads and not throw out cans and cigarette packets. Perhaps too they will note all the extra bins on the beaches, the new benches and the trees recently planted and give the environment the respect it deserves and also credit to those who clear up the mess at the end of the season and improve the facilities for the following year.

It is sad that this is an issue. I see here as well. Kids are taught to clean up after themselves. Parents don't care. It's an epidemic. All we can do is teach the kids in our corner of the world to be clean and to clean up after themselves. It has to start somewhere. ANd it is good that the people that live there are proud of their home and keep it clean.

That's right, if people are proud of their home and their country they keep it clean. We can only look after the area that we are responsible for but it takes longer to clear up the mess than it does to make it.

Our views and what we teach rub off on our children so its best to teach them cleanliness in both home and everywhere so then we won't have more to clean up later! If only we could all learn this.

Its a shame that people are so dirty. Not much you can do about it though.

I have seen with great sadness, beautiful beauty spots being ruined by the carelessness, selfishness and inconsiderate tourists who just dump their rubbish, cause mess and vandalize things, thus spoiling it for other people. Do you remember the film The Beach, an idyllic paradise, near Phuket, Thailand, well apparently because of the film it brought all the tourists and it spoilt the natural beauty. Also wildlife are affected, especially with all the litter that is left behind and not only that it encourages unwanted animals like rats and other vermine who feed on people's waste.

I did not know about the beauty of 'the Beach' being spoiled by tourists, what a pity. If someone discovers a lovely place for a holiday it is better to keep it to themselves if they want to enjoy in the future.

Having plenty of waste bins is a good start. So is having people who care and appreciate clean roadways and beaches. It is always fun when spring and summer and all of the visitors arrive.

Hopefully the visitors will use the waste bins too. Having a lot means less walking for them so I hope they will use them all wisely.

I think that having extra bins to throw waste will help. Sometimes people throw things out the windows because they do not want to get their cars cluttered up and even with plastic bags, well one does not know if the plastic bag is for the extra food or to put the waste in. I doubt that they will notice the clean edges, but they sure will note that there are some extra garbage bins and make sure of them.

I can't wait for Spring myself, even though I live in the city. Just the thought of the tree's budding and the flowers peeking out makes me smile. We've never left a place dirty or throw cans, paper, etc., out the windows of the cars....that's so disgusting for people to do. Who wants to look at all that crap laying around. Hopefully, people will eventually get this through their heads and like you mentioned, give the environment the respect it deserves.

I too am waiting for Spring to arrive. We moved from California back to Kansas, I miss the beach, the surf, the sand, the sun, the California days. Hopefully we can go back soon because being land locked is no fun. I always try to leave a place better than I found it, those who take care of something can pass down its beauty instead of the problems if they don't care.

There are a few beaches here, and a lot of parks where people can go camping or hiking. I'm sure that Spring will bring back all visitors. The great thing about this part of the world is that parks provide bins for garbage and recyclable materials that visitors tend to leave behind. I'm sure it took time to teach people to respect nature though.

Its a cycle of life unfortunately. With nice weather comes the people and then the trash that no one picks up after themselves. A lot don't recycle either. Its a sad reality that happens to our earth.
