Genesis 11:1 "Now the whole world had one language and a common speech." It indicate human only speak 1 language. After the GOD have seen how human plotting to make name for themselves by building the tower of babel and the tower will reach heaven. Then GOD saw this wickedness and confuse their language as mention in verse 6 to 9. "6 The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other. 8 So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 That is why it was called Babel[c]—because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth." Regarding this matter, have there been anyone trying to study what is the one and only language people speeak back then. It was an interesting things to know isn't it.

Interesting question. It must be the language that Adam and the others who lived before the big flood were using.. As far as I have learned, it was the ancient Hebrew. If you want to go deeper, here is a link: http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1200001953

Well, not everybody was not building the tower in Babel in opposition to God. Those who stayed faithful were not affected, as far as I have understood. Sem, for example, continued to live a long time after the flood, and so did many other faithful people. It seems that God's true servants spoke Hebrew. They also had scriptures that were written before the flood, and Moses could just collect them and maybe copy them.

I was thinking along the same line when I saw the question, that it had to be ancient Hebrew and the reference you give does a good job of giving the reasons.

Research does conclude it was ancient Hebrew. But we can also come with the conclusion that ancient Hebrew was one of the language which was given by GOD to confuse the world like any other language. Most of the scripture was written in Hebrew and it was believe it was written by Moses. The problem is Moses live after the Tower of Babel incident.

The oldest religion is Judaism and the incident of the story of Tower of Babel was way back in the Old testament. Probably, the first language is the language of Jews or I think it is Aramaic (not sure of this). I think I'm going to research it. :-)

You might profitably start your research here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Babel You will find out that many people all over the world, including in the Americas, have very similar myths and legends (as there also are for the Flood) and that Judaism is certainly not the oldest religion (though it may be one of the oldest surviving today). Much of Jewish tradition and legend was borrowed from older religions and cultures and it seems that the story of the Tower of Babel probably came from stories told whilst the Jews were in captivity in Babylon.

@edvc77, I think most of research will comes out with the Hebrew and Aramaic. But I really not sure if it is the one because there was never really mention about the original language still in use. When I read back, I come out with a conclusion that GOD mix up everything and nobody speak the original language again. @owlwings, I agree about a lot of myth and legends are similar. Maybe it was because we all come from the same line and the story was actually happen to all of our ancestor. Then they share it according to their understanding and some mix up and there we see a lot of variation.
