Getting a kitten through Craigslist?

United States

I think my parents are finally giving in to me bugging them for a kitten and today my mom and I were looking at kittens in animal shelters in our area. I decided to also look at craigslist and I found these beautiful little kittens. I showed my dad and he told me to get one. I contacted the poster and she emailed me back with more pictures of the kittens and a little information about them. She's actually in Delaware instead of my local area I was searching in but to ship a kitten and have it delivered would be $200. She explained the kittens reminded her of her husband who passed away and she just wants them to go to good homes. I wouldn't have to pay her at all, I just give her my name and address so she can set it up with the shipping company and I'd pay the shipping company without giving her anything. I've never done anything through craigslist before, let alone getting an animal, so I'm just a little nervous. The kittens are absolutely gorgeous and I just hope this isn't too good to be true. Right now I'm waiting to hear back from the woman about the name of the shipping company and how long it would to them to get to me.

I hope everything goes well and that the kitty will not be stressed from being shopped. My main worry is that something will happen to stress the kitty out.

Unfortunately, this was a scam. While waiting to hear back from the lady I did some searching around on the internet and I happened to find the same pictures of the kittens on a breeder's website in the UK. This woman said she was in Delaware but I have a feeling she's not. I feel stupid because I ended up sending her my name and address so she would know I wasn't a buyer trying to scam her. I'm just hoping that nothing can be done with my name and address like getting scammed with money or anything like that. I'm a bit nervous now

Oh no, I hope they do not steal your identity or something. You can start by warning your friends in your email list that if ever they receive a suspicious email from you, they better check with you first if it's really you or not. I know some friends who their emails hacked and then we receive emails from that email address posing as them and asking us for some money.

I'm a bit worried. I don't think anything harmful can really be done with just my address and cell number. I was too trusting and now I'm kicking myself for ever emailing her again.

If I were looking for another cat, I'd go to the local shelter. Those animals have been examined by a vet, have their shots and if old enough, have been neuttered. However, since it seems that you've already made u p your mind, I wish you good luck with your choice.

What is the breed?

I usually get my pets from a rescue or adopt them from somewhere. After seeing this type of kitten though I really fell in love with the breed and I have decided to get one from a breeder

Never, ever buy anything that is alive from an online source. You have no idea what kind of condition the 'product' is in from just pictures. And I wouldn't much bellieve a story about kittens reminding someone of their husband. Most of that kind of stuff you find on sites like Craigslist is fake.

Yeah I was disappointed to find out it was fake. If the kittens were local and I could have visited them before buying one that would've made me feel better. I found a breeder who is out of state and I'm looking into buying one from her

I love dogs also, but cats are easy to take care of. For exmple, you domn't have to take a cat out for a walk for him to go to the "bathroom." cat owners hve cat boxes with sand in it and the cat knows exactly where to go to do his/her duty. In fact csts are so clean, they cover up their duty with the sand. YOu do not have to train a cat to do this. YOu don't have to take a cat out for a walk. They are very easy to take care of. We have gone for many weekends on trips, and we leave our cat box in the same place. We leave her water in a big dish, and we leave her food in a special dish. She is happy when we come home, but you can never leave a dog alone in the house.
