Bamboo is a wonderful plant to have in your yard. It's easy to plant, quick to mature and very hardy in tropical climates. Many homeowners use bamboo as a botanical privacy fence or to hedge against the wind. I have enjoyed both benefits from having bamboo as one fence of my backyard. I love watching it grow towards the sky and sway in the breeze, all the while keeping prying eyes on their side of the property line. I tried to trim my bamboo once, and realized you've got to be the kind of person who truly loves bamboo, as I do, or you'll get frustrated trying to trim or remove it. It also makes a good material for trimming picture frames and staking beans and tomatoes in the garden. If you want to grow bamboo for Asian cuisine, be sure to order the edible variety, rather than the landscaping type. A word to the wise: when growing bamboo, be sure to have a garden cat to deal with the rodent issue. Otherwise, bamboo is a highly desirable garden feature.

Hello, anuraa! There's also lucky bamboo, that is sold at a high price in the stores. It's supposed to bring money into your home. For my part, I find the landscaping bamboo brought plenty.

Hi red! That's interesting that bamboo is associated with spookiness at night. I'm not familiar with the Indonesian bamboo dish, lumpia. I've eaten sliced bamboo shoots in Asian foods before and quite enjoy them.

Fried wheat? As in wheat berries? That sounds cool with sliced bamboo shoots! How is it seasoned?

I never got into bamboo to be honest my friend, my partner was more of a bamboo fan, but since they weren't gardeners and they left the garden to me, bamboo never entered my garden. I guess bamboo is something that you either like or don't, there's no inbetween.

Heya wolfie! Yes, I would venture to say you could be right. Either someone is totally in love with bamboo or they simply cannot stand it. I've seldom heard anyone say that bamboo is simply ok.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u are absolutely right, bamboos are a wonderful plant and are in fact the tallest grass on earth. I have always enjoyed watching them as they look beautiful together. they are also used as decorative pieces at some places but as u said they need to be taken care of specially so that they grow properly. What say?

Hey subhojit! Actually, my bamboo was rather easy to care for. Just plant, water and watch the bamboo reach for the sky. Bamboo are self propagating, like peppermint. If you don't manage them properly, they can take over. But it's easy enough to cut off a clum in the ground and pot it as a gift or sell it.

Hello, teo! Bamboo is easy to fall in love with. It's so easy to care for, green, slender, swaying and beautiful. Try some bamboo in your yard sometime. You might have better success than you think.
