Six days ago we found a mound of feathers and morned one of our best hens. Today she showed up alive. She's wounded, but healing and if we can keep the rest of the chickens away from her she'll be laying eggs again in the summer. We were so surprised, chickens are so easy to kill but every once in a while one shows an amazing will to live. So we give thanks to the chicken god and celebrate her life.

Hi, pat.....What do you think she tangled with? I don't think a fox would have let her live. Where were her wounds? How are all of the other critters?

It turned out to be a neighbor's dog, we know because yesterday he struck again and we caught him at it. He's going to be relocated ASAP in the mean time he's tied up. I don't know where she went, we searched and found a few more feathers in other places.

Yes, let us all bow before the mighty God of Chickens and praise her feathery image. Let us brig to her an offering of many corns.

Plucky lucky chicken eh! Maybe some chickens have more lives than others, after all cats are supposed to have 9 lives, so maybe chickens have on average 1.5!
