I really love wood and as you all know we'd been trying to look for a house to move to but until now we haven't found one that suits our needs, you know, with three dogs and all. Now there is a two-bedroom house located a few distance from the sea which is made of wood. The walls are wood and the floors are also wood. There are wide screened windows, just that, nothing to secure them, and it is actually very cozy that way. The rooms are really huge but the problem is the location. It is very far from the city and we need to take two to three rides to go to the city. Although the rent is not as high as the other houses, but the distance in itself will make it inconvenient for us to go to and from work. What do you think of wooden houses? Would you have second thoughts about living in such a house I described above? Share your thoughts.

wood houses are great since it's cozy and fresh by it's definition but then it is nearly closely to fire prevention, as you describe the location that would not be good to you if that's far from the city since almost everything is found in the city but if your type of person that likes away from stress city and peace of mind that will be a great location to be relaxed and have fun and appreciate the nature itself

Hi Ino. You're right about the fire. Secondly, it's too far.

It depends. Sometimes, wooden houses are susceptible to termites and other pests, unless of course it has been properly treated for long and with continuous treatment. I would like to live in a house like that, depending on the climate and where I live. If it is outside the city, then I guess it would work. Pollution tends to discolor the wood, so being near the ocean is perfect. But just like you, we can't be too far from the city. Maybe someday when we are retired and doesn't have to be in the city most of the time, then we can live in a place like that all the time. For now, it sounds like the perfect weekend-house for some RnR. I am sorry to hear that you are having some troubles looking for a house. And yes, most landlords do not allow pets inside the house anymore. But I am sure that there are those that are also open to having pets.

Yes, it wouldn't have been much of a problem were it not for my pets. My pets should also be part of the arrangement.

How sturdy would they be if you had a hurricane or tornado, not sure if you get those in the area you are considering or even in the country you are living? I wouldn't want to live in a house of wood, I've stayed in a little hut but it was by the beach and you had a padlock on the door to get in. But I never slept in it. Personally I would worry about the two or three rides to get into the city, how time consuming would that be? I guess you have to weigh up the pros and cons, cheaper rent, against the commuting time backwards and forwards on a day to day basis.

Yes, Wolfie, that weighs heavily so we are not very excited about this house because of the distance.

When i was small our house was made of wood too and it is cool in the evening with large windows to make the air come in. When the family got older, the house changed into a bungalow style and most of it is made out of concretes(cement) which is rather hot and air cannot come through anymore. Then, my father built another house just beside our old house and all of it is made of light materials(wood and nipa) very Filipino house like a Bahay Kubo. It hase three bedrooms and when i had a family of my own i get to stay there for 7 years..i liked it there because of the view out of the window, the air coming through and out, although during summer the air is humid...it can be too humid at times but i liked it there. I missed my old wooden house...sigh

It really feels very cozy and homey but the only problem is the distance.

Thanks for this discussion I have never lived in a house made from wood till this day, few years ago i had been to Kashmir in North India, it has house boats made of wood i stayed there for 4 days. In my state wood has become a rare commodities, all jungles are cut in the name of widening of roads and industrialization Most here made the doors/windows/furniture from iron, but you can see all wooden in my homes, let me tell you, when i dismantled my 2 ancestral houses made in 1904, i could get wood used in the ceilings to support the roofs, that was sawed ; it is as strong as steel.

I am dreaming of having a house near beach. My boyfriend and me always talk about having a house in my country where we can easily reach beaches, traditional market, and some entertainment center like amusement park or minimart. We both love out door activities and travellling. I don't know yet what type of house we will have.

For me wooden wood is better when you are in the country side! Actually, that is my dream house,,,a house made of wood,,, I find it very cozy as you have mentioned abbove. and for me it's very relaxing it seems that I'm touching the nature ;-)...well, I'm a nature lover...When settle down I would rather stay in the country side living in that kind of house!! I want to have a fresh air, I want to eat fresh fruits and vegetables....and of with a huge garden... I don't like a big house a small but a house which can also accomodate visitors,,, then a large graden...I love to have a garden,, so refreshing....
