Music that reminds us of the past

Some time ago I watched some music videos on YouTube. Those songs reminded me of my childhood because my father and I used to listen to those songs in car. The singer is a local man from my country, his lyrics are quite amusing because he uses a lot of humour and irony. When I watched those music videos I suddenly remembered a certain cassette tape that my father and I used to listen to in the car and I decided to check if my local library had the cd. I made a reservation and today I picked up the cd at the library. I am listening to the cd right now, and it brings back so many memories My father is no longer able to drive because of his eye problems but I have many happy memories from the time when we went on short road trips together. Which singers or bands remind you of your childhood? Did you ever listen to an old cd after a long break?

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well that is so nice to hear that u and your father used to go out on long drives once and i know u must be getting nostalgic remembering those things. May be u can try out taking your father out on a long drive again and playing that song would make him nostalgic again and make his trip extra special. What say?

Yes, I get nostalgic when I listen to that music. I remember the times when my father and I used to listen to the same music in the car. The lyrics are quite amusing and ironic, and my father and used to laugh at the lyrics together. I like your suggestion about a long drive with my father and that music in the cd player. I borrowed the cd at the library, but I am thinking about buying it and giving it to my father as a present. He used to have it as a cassette tape, but we have no tape recorder anymore and in order to listen to it in the car again we would need a cd instead.

Well since my father does not seems into music very much I can't share what can of music he likes when he was young. But as far as I'm concerned I do loves "Father and Son" song the version sung by BoyZone. I know it's an old song popularized by other singer before. But the one I familiarized with is the BoyZone version. That song always reminds me of my childhood memories when it was so popular.

The only "Father and Son" song I know is the one by Cat Stevens. He's now known as Yusuf Islam. I wonder if it is the same song as the BoyZone version mentioned.

For me anime music featured in series from my childhood remind me of the past, like the opening theme song of Sailor Moon. The Fruits Basket OST also has a nostalgic feeling to it, especially the song Chiisana Inori. And of course there are the boy band music from N Sync and Backstreet Boys which were very popular in the 90s. . .

I remember Backstreet Boys. The first song that I listened to was "We've got it going on" I used to listen to that song over and over and dance in my room. At that time they also played Backstreet Boys songs in the discos and I loved to dance when they played one of their songs. I don't really know N Sync. I know the name, but I don't remember their music.

Justin Timberlake was one of the nSync. I loved them; my kids used to sing and dance to their songs a lot when they were little. Until now I can still hear them play "Bye, Bye, Bye" or "This I Promise You" from YouTube.

hi there porcospino. singers and bands that remind me of my childhood... there are aplenty!!! usually singers or bands that my father and mother listened to on a lazy sunday morning. those are the classics like nat king cole, the carpenters, and my personal favorite andy williams. i also grew up listening to the cascades and some motown hits. granted these are songs from the 50s, 60s, and 70s but my uncles who were teenagers then were listening to these type of music. anyway, as i grew older my musical tastes and preferences grew. on occassion, i would listen to some of these old artists in youtube and grooveshark just to reminisce.

When I was growing up, most of the music that I would listen to was oldies at the time as that was the music that my parents grew up with when they were younger. Now those songs are very old songs and I have to admit that I'm still a fan because of the fact that it reminds me of the times in my life when things were much more carefree. One particular group that I really like to listen to is Simon and Garfunkel because that was always one of my father's favorites.

That sounds like my brother When we were still living at home he loved to play his favourite music really loud. He was driving my parents crazy, but he still turned up the volume every time. At that time he loved techno, and the rest of the family didn't share his taste, so it created a lot of conflicts in the family. I think that the neighbours didn't appreciate his loud music either. Today when I listen to some of that music from the 90's I remember my brother and his loud music. He loved the Whistle song and each time they sang "Louder louder" he turned up the volume. My mother couldn't stand that song.

The first boyband I remember was Bros. They were popular around the around time when I was in 6th grade and the girls from my class loved them. Later came New Kids on block, Take That etc. I remember Backstreet boys, too. The first song that I listened to was "We've got it going on" I loved to dance to that song. Yes, music makes reminds us of the past. When I listen to the music I used to listen to in the past it brings back a lot of memories from that time. Sometimes it makes me a little sad to remember those things, but other songs are related to positive memories like the singer that my father and I used to listen to in the car.

The usual songs that would really bring back memories would be the 80's music. New Wave Music Rocks! (ooopss, there goes my age! And also some sentimental songs that would bring back happy and sad memories of past loves.

Of my childhood? Not too many are worth mentioning because my listening ear has evolved. I will probably remember the most is music from such as Judas Priest, Bon Jovi, AC/DC just to mention a couple.

"The Sound of Music" tracks made me nostalgic. A cousin took me to see that movie when I was a kid. I loved it so much and I ended up watching that movie several times throughout my life. I used to remember all the songs in it. And I think until now, I'd be reminded of those songs whenever I happer to hear.

No, I never got the chance to hear songs played from the cassette tapes but I am aware on those.Yeah, like you do, I also fond of listening to music when I was still a kid together with my father. I am very close with my father and his passion is singing. I remember, he had a lot of collections of western classics music before. So I knew a lot of old songs because of his passion of singing together with me.
