Stray Dog

This morning when i let my 2 dogs into the back yard i saw on the other side of the fence a dog. I had never seen this dog before and felt it might be a stray and was like aaawww poor dog. I didn't see that it had a collar on and wasn't sure if it did. Then i went to the front door and opened it and saw the dog do it's business and thought poor dog in the snow. yes it is snowing here. I tried calling the dog and the dog looked at me and ran across the street. I'm kind of glad the dog didn't come into my house because after i called the dog i realized how bad and idea that was to call a stray dog. Tho i feel really bad for that dog being out in the snow with what seems to be no collar or tag on poor thing. Don't know what i could have done for the dog and if i went to call animal control or human society the dog would have been long gone by the time i was with the call.

It would have probably been good to call them anyways because if someone is looking for him they will have a where a bouts of where he was last.

It really does bother me when I see strays because I know that something terrible could happen to them at any time and because of that I try to do what I can to make sure that they are safe. There have been several times that I've called a stray into my back yard so that I know that they will remain safe until animal control is able to get here. Another thing that we've done several times is that we will get a friendly stray into our car and will take them to the animal shelter ourselves. I couldn't stand to know that something had happened to a stray that I'd ignored.

We sometimes find stray dogs who seem so sweet with those eyes. But it could never be safe to call them or even pet them. Much better if we report them right away for everyone's security.

You could of called animal control to come get it. I know here it's very uncommon to see a dog wandering like that.

it's hard to trust that a stray dog wouldn't attack you. in times like this, it's better to just stay inside the house and call proper authorities to handle the situation.

You can only hope that the dog just got away from his or her home and that it has found its way home

Well i guess you cannot simply just take them in anyhow as they might be infected with some diseases and might spread easily. They also might not adapt to your house environment and have some weird behaviour so do not take stray animals especially dogs.

I used to live where stray dogs and cats would get dropped off and I would take them in, finding them a home and sometimes keeping them. Animal shelters always seemed to have a waiting list and by the time they could take them, I would have found a new home for the animals. There were a few animals that I would take care of and feed and would end up getting bit because they just didn't trust people. When I found a chow tied to my front porch one day and sent my son out to wait for the school bus, it started barking and lunging at him. It took almost a week for someone to come get him but sometimes, taking care of a stray is a bad idea.
