I have an interest in painting/drawing. Although, I am not very talented I really like to be involve in this hobby. The best piece I did was when I was in grade 6. I love Mariah Carey so I drew her face. I believed I did a decent job but a friend of mine told me the drawing did not look like Mariah-it did saddened me a bit. Now that I am older, I really wanted to cultivate my inner artist through learning how to paint but I do not want to enroll to an art/painting lessons. Any idea on where in the web can I find a free lesson on the basics of painting? If free is impossible a paid/subscription will be OK but as long as it is cheap.

Yep, You Tube. There are lots of videos there, but Interweave also has a lot of free ebooks you can download with painting and drawing techniques. Are you on Pinterest? I have a lot of their ebooks pinned on a board of free craft ebooks and tutorials. Here's the link: http://pinterest.com/cdgautreaux/free-craft-ebooks/.

Oh I forgot Youtube. Free tutorials are everywhere on youtube. I'd rather see how it is done than read it and figure out how to make it. But I will check the link you gave, it will help too.

You tube is good, but a lot of videos are from amateurs. It's always good to see, but an illustrated ebook can give you techniques for other things you may not find on you tube. Good luck with your learning!

You can learn painting techniques on your own. Just go to wikipedia and read the theme; painting techniques. The interest that you have in painting and practice will be enough to start acquiring painting knowledge.

Another way you learn is by copying. If you visit art galleries in London or Paris, you will notice a lot of learners are copying the works of great artists. If you come across a nice photo, picture or painting, there is no harm to learn by copying. Save your money to buy art materials.
