Who is to say they are the only ones to know the mind of God?

Okay I love my Mommy (my adopted mom) but I really get annoyed by her too because she thinks she knows what pleases God and what doesn't. She doesn't mince any words too. She goes on a rant about homosexuals and calls them queeahs. I call her less and less anymore because she is so set in her ways about what the bible says. She thinks in going to bust hell wide open because I rarely go to church anymore. Well, to tell you the truth I've not really seen a lot if love in the church I belong to anymore. It's more cliquish than inclusive. We have a pot luck dinner on Wednesday nights and I quit going when my pastor was introduced to some Later Day Saints that were invited to dinner. My pastor welcomed them to eat but told them they are not Christians. Okay...how does he know they aren't Christians? Because they are called Mormons? I bet God would identify them as his children quicker than he would who make such harsh statements. Mommy also goes on if you smoke you are 'loose'. I just roll my eyes when I hear that. I smoked when she first came into my life. So not only was I defiling the temple of The Lord because I smoked but I was also perceived as a whoer (spelled wrong on purpose). So she knows the mind of God more than I do? Maybe even more than you do? Na! I believe that we all experience God in our own way or not at all. The God I serve is not a God that hates people for being themselves. Like the gay discussion. Someone summed it up so well. Who chooses to be gay? Who chooses to be hated? Jesus never hated anyone. I wish we could all just love others the way we want others to love us. Why label them to fit in a certain box? I love my adopted mom, but I feel she will never lead people to The Lord by spouting so much hate. She is so quick to point out the sins of others but she only talks about herself as getting a closer walk with God. I think she is getting worse or she is just getting senile. Your thoughts?

The Bible does tell us what is in the mind of God for what he expects of us but we can't make people change but harping on them. Changes have to come from within. My daughters do things I don't like but they are of ages so I let them make up their own mind. I figured I had my chance before they were 18teen. If I didn't do a good job it wasn't their fault.

Yes the bible does have precepts to live by, but it's still all a matter of perception. Case in point the bible tells us not to spare the rod when raising our children. Does it truly mean to take up a rod as a weapon to beat your kids with? I don't think so. Do it in public and someone will call 911 on you and you'll go to jail. Another is do not suffer a witch to live. See what that verse did during the Salem witch trials. What I'm saying is that some truths are literal and some are not literal. Each person needs to decide what the bible is saying to him/herself.

The Salem witch trials got a little or a lot carried away. I understand that someone on my mother's side of the family may have been at least accused of being a witch. I can agree with you that people need to be responsible for themselves in learning what is true and not leave it up to others to decide for them.

Hatred, ignorance and fear. These pastors see what they want to see. When it all comes down to it they are bigots. They interpret the Bible and God in their own way.

And their way is the right way and you and I are wrong. Yes they are bigots. They think its their job to purge the earth of evil, when evil lives in their own hearts. It's like you must become like us. Not so! I remember something from the bible. Jesus and his disciples are out teaching and the disciples see some others teaching also. The disciples say something to the effect that there are others teaching also but they are not with us. Jesus says leave them alone because they are doing no harm. Something like that. I don't know where it is or what the wording is but I never forgot it. That implied there are other ways to God.

There are many ways to God. Yes, that is good. He was better than any pastor but they seem to have the bigger head.

I guess your mom is just a conservative Christian who has a lot of time to burn. But I guess she's telling you this because she loves you and she doesn't want you to get sick or anything (that's for the smoking part). As for the homosexuals, I guess your mother is a person who doesn't adapt quickly to change. Homosexuals are people too and I believe God loves them equally as He loves us. I suggest you do not lose your faith in your Church and just take in the good and throw away the bad.

I haven't list my faith in God. The church is within me...that's how I feel about it. I do kind of throw away the bad because to say anything to disagree just makes her angry and she throws it up to me. I quit smoking in 2001. No she doesn't like change. She doesn't like Christians with tattoos...even if they are old tattoos from before they came to Christ. She doesn't like motorcycle preachers. She doesn't like storefront churches. In other words she is very set in her beliefs and she doesn't change.

I am glad to hear you quit smoking. If you love life you will want to do everything you can to live longer.

Hi PointlessQuestions, You know how I feel about the Christian Church and how it has gotten away from the teachings of Jesus Christ.Today however, I came across a site called No-Exceptions.org which is sponsored by a group of Episcopalians and I was pleasantly surprised. Now I'm sure I would not agree with all the teachings of The Episcopal church and no doubt they have their hypocrites too, but it was nice change to see so much that is good there. I'm sorry to hear that your adopted mom is acting this way but she certainly isn't alone among Christians and of course God still loves her as he loves everyone-unconditionally. The problem is that such people are dragging the world backward and doing a lot of harm to others. Some churches still refuse to accept women into the clergy and many still spew out hatred against gays and lesbians. Blessings.

Hi Pose. I've not been to church in a long time. I really don't feel a connection with a church that is so unloving toward people who are not like them. In my mind if it is a sin to be homosexual then it's also as much of a sin yo be heterosexual. In other words you are sinning just being who you are. Why point fingers at gays when 3 of our own fingers point back to us? That's how I feel.

hi P'Q I hate to say it but she co ld be getting senile t o.I think Christ taught us to do unto others as we would have them do unto us and its served me well all my life too. my husband also used that as his guide too. My God is a kind loving God who cares for all people and all denominations too. he would not chastise a person for being gay or for being lack or brown or yellow or white,We are all his children.

Yes Aunt Hatley. I think of Him as my Daddy. He lives all his children. Like all the different colors of a rainbow. Everyone is beautiful and a reflection of God in some way. My brother isn't a believer but I know he is loved by God too. My brother even believes in forgiveness and talked to my daughter about practicing her faith by forgiving her father for not being in her life. She feels close to her father now and wouldn't have been if my brother hasn't talked to her about forgiveness.

Well, the problem is that there is a disconnect between the True G*d & the true G*d. Very hard to tell the difference, I know. But the True G*d exists entirely within your mind. Everyone else has the True G*d entirely within their minds too. & the True G*d is entirely happy with 'only existing within humans' minds.' But 'the nature of the world' makes us think that 'the G*d who controls each perception each of us have' MUST be 'the G*d who controls everything for everyone (& for everyone else too ).' And so we don't differentiate between 'what my G*d is telling me' & 'what your G*d is telling you!' And G*d doesn't care. If I misunderstood Him & felt like G*d were telling me to do a buncha crimes, & I did `em; G*d would still be in His Heaven.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying but I believe God is more than a concept of the mind.

nobody knows the mind of God and if you had a hundred ministers in a room they would all be disagreeing with each other. there are examples, the town of Sodom was destroyed by god that is where you get the word sodomy. It was also in the old testament long before Christianity came about. There is only one thing that makes a person Christian and that is he or she has accepted Christ, there rest is just church dogma.

I like it too. Very much. Yes the rest is dogma. Not essential.
