Funerals and favorites

Saturday was Tony's dad's funeral. It was a nice service, gospel music, and the usual church stuff, and old friends telling stories about him. The reception afterward had sandwiches and salads and desserts. Tony's dad was very fond of dessert, so I had several in his honer. There was a book of stories that the family had put toghether for him for Thanksgiving, things they remembered about him. They had the stories blown up with pictures of the person who had written them, and they were on the reception hall walls for people to read. He was a nice man, and an awesome father, as evidenced by Tony's qualities. That evening, I went home to change (ouch, shoes with heels), and Dearra was there. Why are you here? Dad came and said he was taking us to Oma's and I told him I didn't want to go to Oma's every weekend. lol So, we went out with her and Tony's granddaughter and played mini golf. Yours truly won, and now Tony is going to have to try for best 3 out of 5. lol His granddaughter's a nice girl, and she and Dearra hit it off OK. The next day we went to see Stars on Ice in San Jose. I had bought tickets late, and to my surprise I was able to get front row seats. Front row center pretty much. I was jazzed, since it was Kurt Browning's farewell tour, and also Dorothy Hamill was skating. Ryan Bradley did a Harry Potter number, and Kurt did his famous Singing in the Rain number. As usual, it was awesome. Tony's family was having dinner at Red Hawk Casino that evening. I didn't think we would get back in time to make it, but we managed to get there about 40 minutes after everybody else. It was a buffet, and most of them were still eating. So anyway, for a sad occasion, it wasn't a bad weekend.

i need a weekend to recover from my weekend! for us, Saturday included taking the inlaws shopping (fil has altzheimers and mil doesn't drive, so hubby has to drive them pretty much everywhere) then we did some own personal errands, did a bit of cleaning for today (having our weekly Bible study group to our house tonight) and then went to mom's house for supper for our youngest daughter's birthday who is turning 16 on Thurs. Sunday, we got up for church, grabbed a bite to eat and then drove for 2 and a half hours to take our older daughter back to college, chilled there for a half an hour or so and then came home. ~sigh~!

After dinner I had to stop at the grocery store so that the kids had food for lunches, then I got home and found they hadn't tossed their laundry into the washer, so I had to do that and the dryer. didn't get enough sleep, but I did get to see Once Upon a Time and Amazing Race, which I had taped...

Glad to hear you honored Tony's dad by forcing yourself to have extra desserts...

Aww, sorry to hear about Tony's dad, but I am glad he was able to get out and have fun with you and Dearra afterwards, I am sure it helped him through his grief.

I'm glad that things turned out decently over the weekend. When I used to watch skating, Kurt Browning was always one of my favorites. You can tell how long it's been since I used to watch skating.

I lost my mom 9 years ago. She didn't want a memorial. Yeah, they know how to put something together, that is for sure. It was very nice.
