It's a Schnauzer!

This is what I hear so many times when I walk my dog! For those who don't know Binne, she's an Airedale Terrier. I know both Airedales and Schnauzers have beards, they both have wiry coat, but here the similarities stop. The size differs, the colors of the coat are totally different, the temperament is not the same... Still people make this silly confusion so often! I prefer people who ask me about her breed instead of those who "know everything" and say she's a Schnauzer. Does this happen to you, too? Do people mistake your dog for a different breed? For those who are not dog people, were you in the situation to make a silly confusion? Or were you a subject of a confusion?

I have also a beard, but nobody called me a Schnauzer. It is true that people are often confusing breeds. There are also a lot of terriers and it is not easy to remember the names of all the breeds. Then there are people who are making silly things to make things look more confusing : I believe you know Schnairedales.

I have never asked to be introduced to your sister in law. I share your opinion : shelters are full of cross breeds... And what is stupid is that there is only a very little chance for one of these cross breeds to become a recognized breed.

I wonder why is that? Maybe because you don't have wiry hair? If you had, they must have been called you a Schnauzer. I know people make confusions, it's understandable, but there are this kind of people who think they know everything. They argue with me, trying to convince me I have a Schnauzer at the other end of the leash. I know about Schnairedales, as well as I know about Labradoodles, Cockapoos, Mal-shi's, Puggles and so on. I never understood why people choose to breed crossed breed dogs deliberately.

If you hate to be taught your job, you must meet my sister in law. I don't know why people would buy a "new breed" like this. If they don't want a particular breed, why don't they adopt a dog from a shelter?

I am glad you cleared that up for me, though I do ask, not that I know everything, but to see if I am correct in guessing a breed. As for my girls, Ciara isn't too hard, she looks like a border collie, but Penny, I had people ask if she was some kind of terrier (which her personality leads me to believe she is a terror..) Anyways, that is because being a mix between a border collie and beagle, she has the short beagle coat, like most terriers, but she doesn't have the black, brown, and white of a beagle, just black and white and when one looks at her, (and her hyper personality) one would automatically think terrier, I know I do and she is my dog...

Maybe they think Penny is a giant black and white Jack Russel Terrier. Those little demons look like Penny, only they come in small packages.

Well, considering her looks and she does bark like a terrier when she sees her shadow, yeah I can imagine people freaking out when they see her..lol I know I would..

Don't judge all terriers with the image of small terriers! I wish Binne barked more. She hardly barks when someone knocks at the door though she's a terrier! I didn't try, but I think it could be difficult to teach her to bark on command. Is Ciara a big barker, too?

it is a rare variety of dog and many people get it confused for a dance because they almost look like and they are quite brilliant in certain aspects

Really? What variety of dog are you talking about? I rummaged through my brain for a name of a breed that could be confused for a dance, but I found nothing. Can you give me any hint?

Don't care what brand she is .... oops, I mean breed, but she's cute. They probably do not know much about dogs as you do. No, this has not happened to me before as I don't have a dog and you can say that I am a subject of confusion. I don't know all the dogs' breed, I only know how to play with them.

Oh, there are so many breeds that are similar to each other. I wouldn't tell to the owner's face straight what breed I think the fog is, because I know I'm no expert... like I get confused with bichon havanese and bolognese (not to talk about the fact that sometimes I can't tell a mutt from a pure-bred dog :D)...

You are right. There are many breeds that are similar to each other. I don't think there are many people who really know all the breeds. But, as you said, it is better to ask the owner instead of claiming you are an expert. It is not difficult to tell the difference between a Bolgnese and a Havanese, especially if they are adults. The Bolognese's coat is more curly, while the Havanese's is wavy. A Havanese has a longer body, with short legs, while a Bolognese has a square built. Finally, the Bolognese's coat can be only white in color, while the Havansese is rarely pure white; their coat can have any color.

I don't know if you will see this, but I have a couple pictures I took last week at my daughter's dog grooming shop and I can tell the difference between a schnauzer and an Airedale terrier. That is because we had our first Airedale terrier and she definitely is nothing like a schnauzer. I miss you and hope you come back, in the ,meantime, here is Bailey!
