I have just made this very simple coloring pad together with my 4 year old son. At first, I just took a big piece of white paper to wrap the newspaper, and it was done. My son wanted to write his name on the coloring pad, and after writing his name, he used crayon to draw on the pad itself. As the crayon may dirty the table, so we decided to use a transparent wrapping paper to wrap it, so my son's drawing can still be seen. I cut out the wrapping paper, and I attended to my baby girl as she was crying. When I came back to my son, he has cut and wrapped the coloring pad with the wrapping paper. I was so amazed! I just showed him how to wrap a book, and how I cut the wrapping paper to wrap the day before. He just picked it up so fast! I always think children's potential is really amazing and great! It's really fun making crafts together with the children, though sometimes they don't do it the way you want, but that's their creativity! Do you like to make any crafts together with your children? What is the craft you have made with them lately? If you are interested to make the coloring pad, here is the tutorial: http://thewonderofchildhood.com/2011/06/how-to-make-a-coloring-pad/

Yeah, kids are really natural! I think that's called "living", and as adults, we always admire that.

my 2 granddaughters love to do crafts.i showed them how to knit and crochet.the 11 yr old prefers crochet and the 8 yr old prefers knitting...we also do beading and sewing together.the oldest loves to sew by hand and comes up with her own designs.and the youngest tries to do everything her sister does..they also love to do origami..doing things together is so much better than sitting at the computer playing games..

I agree with you! It's good for children to do things with their hands, instead of using the fingers on keyboard only. I am learning how to knit and crochet too, I learned knitting first, hence I think it's easier to knit. I just started crocheting these few days, and get addicted to it now.

Your boy is a fast learner. He must be inherently creative. He must have gotten that ability from your or from your hubby. I bet he would be very good in craft as he grows older. I also do enjoy making crafts with my children. That is one good way of spending quality time with them.

Thanks for the compliment. But, frankly speaking, I am not good at crafts at all. I started to learn all these crafting because of my son, I read that it's good for the children to do all these handiwork, and hence I have to learn it first. I suppose it's because he has been watching me doing the craft work, and he is a good observer.

That is pretty neat. I wish I have known that when my siblings are still young and need lots of ways to pre-occupy themselves. It is so amazing how kids nowadays are so smart, that we always have to watch out what we say or do. They are like sponges, able to pick up lots of things we thought they never pay any attention to.

I agree with you that sometimes I thought my son was not paying attention, but he actually heard what we said and did, and he picks up things very fast. They like to imitate and learn now, hence what the adults do, they are actually watching, especially the parents.
